The Publick House

January 10, 2009

Tonight’s post can be summed-up in 5 words: I love The Publick House!

Mal and I met our friends Blain and Jamie at The Publick House to celebrate their recent engagement. Blain proposed to Jamie on New Years Eve, and tonight was the first time we’ve seen them since that special evening. Of course, we had to hear the engagement story and see Jamie’s ring. (Her ring is gorgeous– a center diamond with blue sapphires on either side. So pretty!)

The Publick House has the most AMAZING beer selection– honestly, it’s probably the best in Boston! If you love great beer from all around the world, this is the place to go! The Publick House has a full menu of beer selections, which changes slightly every few weeks. The waitstaff is always up-to-date with their knowledge of the new beer selections as well as the old. I asked our waitress about 5 different beers before ordering one called Dirty Bastard, which was VERY tasty! I liked it a lot!

Description: Dirty Bastard is an absolute beautiful beer to behold. Dark ruby in color and brewed with ten varieties of imported malts this beer continuously lives up to its reputation as a bold and powerful ale. Dirty Bastard is complex in the finish with hints of smoke and peat paired with a malty richness, finalized with a good bit of hop attitude.

The Publick House also has a fantastic food menu. (Mal and I usually order one of their wonderful cheese plates!) Tonight, I perused the menu, but I already knew what I wanted for dinner: paper bag of Publick House French fries! I am obsessed with the French fries at the Publick House!!! They are seriously to die for– crisp and crunchy on the outside, but soft and smooth on the inside. Total heaven!

I ate about 3/4 of the bag with ketchup and malt vinegar. Holy yum!

Mr. Mal and I just finished watching a movie, so now it’s time for bed. It’s snowing here, and I am looking forward to a laid-back, snowy Sunday morning with pancakes and coffee.

G’night, guys!

The fries are perfect–the bag just soaks up all the grease, right?

I love drinks with good names, i.e. Dirty Bastard. One of the best glasses of Merlot I’ve had was called Bored Housewife. Hmm..interesting…

Love that greasy bag of fries AND love that you use malt vinegar and ketchup. It’ s my favorite thing and I get the weirdest looks when I do it outside of RI or Mass!

Okay, the beer really looks good, which is quite something considering my usual yuck-face reaction to beer. Haha.

Also, TOTALLY saw you on Roni’s site! I think you’re fabulous, and clearly have a good foundation for making a career out of blogging. Go for it, girl — you’re smart, and you’ll figure it out.

I love dirty bastard! Glad to hear you liked it too – and those fries – just from the looks of them (let alone your review) – I think I could eat 10 “bags” worth in one sitting! :)

Congrats to Blain & Jamie. Those fries look scrumptious. My dad grew up in Maine & CT and loves vinegar with his fries. Thankfully, he introduced me – such a great combo, but unheard of in the South. Glad you had a fun night with your bastard. :)
