Check out the wealth of nourishment in squash!
I never realized that squash was such a super star! I also didn’t realize that squash is a relative of both the melon and the cucumber. What a happy little family!
This morning’s breakfast was a lovely bowl of squash oats, made with TJ’s canned squash.
In the mix:
- 1/2 cup dry oats
- 1/3 cup canned squash
- 2 chopped Medjool dates
- 1/2 cup oat milk
- 2 scoops of Barney Butter
If you’re interested in learning more about oat milk, which is also a nutritional super star, please see my post from October about it.
Happy Monday, bloggies!
Where the heck did the weekend go!?!

Gotta love how many options there are with oatmeal mix-ins!
Nothing can compare to how I feel, both mentally and physically, after a run. Although I enjoy many forms of exercise, running (especially outside) gives me such an adrenaline rush!
I love how accomplished I feel after finishing a work out. I know I’ve done something good for myself.
I never would’ve thought to add squash to oats! YUM.
My favorite benefit is that it keeps me sane. I’m a crankster when I can’t workout.
Love squash!
I never knew that about proteins though, I always though nuts and beans provided a good protein source. Interesting. So does that mean tofu and soy are also incomplete proteins?
I must exercise! I feel bloated and yucky if I don’t get at least some cardio in. And if I can’t exercise for a few days I get really cranktastic.
wow! squash is a superstar!!
My favorite benefit of exercise is the energy boost that it gives me for the rest of the day
time by myself.
Wow! I knew squash was good…but not THAT good! Nice!
I just love the feeling after, when your energized and know you just did something so great for your body
I love how GREAT and HAPPY I feel after exercising! even on a gloomy rainy or freezing cold day
I love squash annd oat milk! Perfect breakfast! =)
I love exercising because I always feel so happy and refreshed afterwards. I just have this glow
My favorite benefit of exercise is its ability to get me out of a bad mood or wake me up. I just feel very alive and happy when I’m done… probably because I know I’m done for the day.
My Heart Sings.
I finally saw the last of the Oscar nominated films this weekend…woohoo.
My fav benefit of exercise is that I have so much more engergy when I work out consistently.
Squash in oats. That sounds delish but I would have never thought of it.
Fav benefit of exercise…when it’s over I feel so damn accomplished and sweaty and strong, it’s a great boost.
My favorite benefit of exercise is eating a well-balanced meal afterward! I tend to eat less, eat slower and all-around have a good meal. There’s something about a workout beforehand that keeps me on track.
Tina, you are genius! Great Oats….. I enjoy sweating and having the pain the next day from exercising.
zesty
I have got to find some BB and canned squash – that looks so good.
squash is a miracle food!
my best exercise benefit is that morning workouts mean the day has already been successful and productive … all by 6am!
Oh – favorite benefit of exercise:
Feeling strong and like I accomplished something! I always feel stronger and happier after, even if it was a sucky workout.
haha!!! I love the WH Foods website! Squash is just that much more amazing. I do love the idea combining it with Medjool dates. I saw them at WFoods yesterday, and I couldn’t believe how pricey they were there! I’m sure Trader J’s has them b/c I gotta get some! Have a great monday!
favorite benefit of exercise:
feeling good about my self after and it makes me happy (sometimes tired) but overall happy and less stressed and productive.
Love the combo of squash and dates in your oatmeal!
Wow, I didn’t know that squash was a powerhouse either!
I like how I feel after exercising, good or bad!
My favorite benefit: Endorphins!! Gotta love that high
Fabulous bowl of oats!

I love butternut squash! I’d say that I like how strong I feel after working out, and how great of a stress buster it is!
Oooh! I like the combination of medjool dates and squash. I actually have both at home so I’ll have to try it soon! Thanks
This is my first time posting, but I love your blog! Where did you get that nutrient information?
My favorite benefit is definitely my mood. When I have a great workout in the morning it sets the tone for the entire day. I have a more positive outlook and am always more productive. And it’s where I do all my thinking and planning for my day/week/month/LIFE!
thats easy! endorphins!
I’ll chime in with others and say that my favorite benefit of exercise is that for me, it’s a mood stabilizer. I’ve struggled with depression all my life, and while I am medicated still, regular exercise just makes me more content and easygoing overall. I think it’s an outlet for a lot of negative energy and it helps me be more awake and optimistic.
never thought of putting squash in my oats! hmmm…
Well my favorite benefit of excersise is how it makes me feel physically and mentally! I love that it gets my body in shape but it also boosts up my confidence as a women:)
I love the muscle soreness from weight training, it makes me feel like my time in the gym was well spent!
Wow squash is better then I thought it was for you.
My favorite benefit of exercise is the rush you get afterwards, the feeling pride after you push yourself, the time to yourself to think while running, and the differences you see in your body as it gets stronger.
have a great Monday!
Tina, I finally bought some wheat berries last night and simmered them for about an hour. I added 1/3 c. to my 1/3 cup oats this morning and have to say I don’t think I’m a fan
It tasted weird to have the two textures and I just am not used to the chew factor. Kept me full though! Maybe I’ll try them in something else…
Great idea with the squash in the oats! I have a can of TJ’s butternut squash in my pantry….
I have to agree with Rose’s comment about exercise…I eat much better when I’m exercising consistently! Its like I don’t want to waste all that effort by eating a greasy pizza afterwards. When I get off track with exercise, I get off track with eating. Double negative!
My favorite thing about exercise is how strong it makes me feel. After I work out I feel like I can take on anything.
ooooh i have some canned squash that i didn’t know what to do with!
my favorite benefit of exercise is the endorphins!!
I have been looking for canned squash – guess i need to check TJs!
I just recently made some Savory Cheese Muffins with Yellow Squash and also a Yellow Squash Peach Bread. They were both yummy!
Yummy! Squash oats…I’m sure that is suprisingly sweet. I am having butternut squash soup for dinner…Yay for healthy food!
Favorite exercise benefit…mental clarity and a good night’s sleep!
@Lee: It sort of tastes the same to tell you the truth!
@The Running Yogini: It’s from the Whole Foods website.
Heh, I was going to ask Lee’s question!
I love that exercise makes me stronger and healthier… and many times clears my head. I may have to force myself to go tonight. I’ll probably thank myself later.
squash oatmeal? mmm! i love slightly caramelized squash from the oven… i eat it when it’s cooled – it firms up slightly and has that subtle sweet taste
