Four Photo Breakfast

January 23, 2009

You know breakfast is GOOD when you snap four photos of it, and want to include all of them in your post!

As you may know, banana-Barney Butter oats are my favorite kind of oats. The combo is simply perfect in my eyes! ;-)

This morning’s oats were an ampted-up version of my fav: banana oats with walnuts, wheat berries, and 2 scoops of Barney Butter! Heaven! :-D

In the mix:

  • 1/2 cup dry oats
  • 1/4 cup wheat berries
  • 1 banana slices
  • 1 tbsp chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup vanilla soy milk
  • Splash of water
  • 2 spoonfuls of Barney Butter

Check out that monster spoonful of BB!

After work, Mal and I are headed home to have dinner with my family. My cousin and her fiance are visiting from New Mexico, so we’re all getting together to spend time with them. I am so excited to see her!!! And, I *think* we are having fondue for dinner!

Happy weekend, bloggies!!!!! Any fun and exciting plans?

Because of you, I started to incorporate wheatberries into my breakfast oats as well. Thanks! I love the chewy texture and nuttiness of it. I think I’m going to try other grains, like barley next. :) TGIF!

oh, in college i went to get my haircut at a “new” place, i have thick natural very curly hair and the lady just started combing my hair, she never washed it, said she doesn’t wash people’s hair? i was like, can i just go and she said no, that would not be allowed. i was scared for a bit and ran back to my residence hall and took a shower! it was odd, never went back there. i looked like bozo a litlte when she was finished.

Delicious oats.

I do have a haircut horror story! I have had a pixie cut for a number of years and had been to the same person for a long time. She unexpectedly left the salon and I had to have someone else cut my hair. The girl was unfamiliar with short hair, I guess, or maybe she was nervous but she accidently put a huge gap in the side of my head and let me tell you, when you hair is only an inch long, it ain’t pretty! I ended up going back to the owner of the salon and having it fixed, it was super duper short but at least it didn’t have a gap in it!

I had wheat berries in my oat bran today – it was sooooo great.
About 3 years ago I decided to cut my hair very short. I took a picture of what I wanted to this salon – I had never been there before. After talking to the stylist I felt very confident she knew what she was doing. I was extremely thrilled with the hair cut – she did exactly what I wanted. So the next time I needed a trim I returned to the same stylist. Well for some reason she could not reshape the cut that she had just created a month before. She left some parts long that should have been short, it was all wrong and it looked ridiculous. I left and went home to see if I could work with the damage. I was literally in tears. I had no idea what to do. After talking to a friend who owns her own salon, I decided to call the manager. He asked if I would come by so he could try to fix it. I was so scared but willing to give him a chance. My friend, knowing the manager of the salon, thought that he would do his best with the wreck job on my head. Well he did what he could – I should have just shaved my head because that was about how much hair was left after he was finished. He gave me a $50 gift certificate to his salon – yeah, like I was coming back. It was BAD. I let my hair grow back in and then found a new stylist through my friend. I have been going to since and she is the BEST. If she moves away I am going to have to follow her because no one else will ever touch my head with a pair of scissors again.

That oatmeal looks delicious!

I’ve never really had a haircut horror story, but I’m currently not thrilled with my bangs. I’ve had long, side-swept bangs for the past few months, and just two days ago my hair stylist cut them a little too short for my tastes. This is the first time I’ve EVER had a haircut that I’m not totally happy with. I guess I’ve been lucky! But, trying to get some perspective on the matter…they’re just bangs, and they’ll grow out. Everyone else seems to like them better than I do!

That oatmeal is definitely worthy of four pictures!

I have some hair color horror stories, but no haircut horror stories…although every time my mom cut my bangs when I was little, it was quite scary. They never came out straight.

Oh man, do I ever… two actually.

Haircut horror story #1: I was in second grade, had chicken pox, and was missing my two front teeth. (Mental image in place?) My mom decided that it would be a good idea for her to cut my hair, so snip, snip, snip. Well, once my wavy hair dried, it sprung up a few inches – up to my ears! Although I don’t remember being all that self-conscious at the time, I look back at that haircut and shudder.

Haircut horror story #2: I was 12, and decided that it would be a good idea to get my hair cut at the barber shop where my Dad goes. Dawn, a bleached-blonde, stilleto-wearing, cleavage-baring “hairdresser” sat me down in her chair, and snip, snip, snip. I realized after I got home that my hair was cut on a diagonal, and there were longer pieces hanging down in the middle. Being more self-conscious at age 12 than at age 7, I went elsewhere to have my hair fixed.

Lovely.

Nice oatmeal :) I need to get some Barney Butter! I have a few other jars to work through first, though.

Tonight sounds like fun – enjoy your Friday!

No hair horror stories – yet

fondue sounds like a fun dinner “event”. i’ve never been to a fondue restaurant but def want to.
in 1997/8 i wanted the short Gwyneth Paltrow cut. I think this is when she was dating Brad Pitt. I came out looking less than Gwyn and more like Brad, very boyish. never again.
everyone have a good friday!

that oatmeal looks delish!! and yes, i had a horrific haircut experience… i went to a Super Cuts to get bangs for the first time (NEVER go there unless you just need a trim!!). The woman made my bangs frame my face in these chunky, stair-step patterns. it was so bizarre and looked absolutely awful. i ended up getting all my hair chopped off and my bangs thinned out by another stylist, in a style that was deemed “the helmet” by my best guy friend (how nice, right?) because i always straightened it and it looked plastered to my head… needless to say, highschool was an awkward time.

That breakfast is worth four photos for sure!

What a great question – I think everyone can relate! One of my worst haircuts happened when I first moved to DC. I was rocking my western PA haircut (which was basically flat and unattractive), and I went to this super trendy place that charged about $100+ for a haircut. I told the girl what I wanted (which ironically was the haircut I have now), and she told me that the haircut would not be flattering on me at all – and would make my face look fat! (Actually said that! I do have a chubbier face, but still!). She progressed to cutting all these crazy layers into my hair and also cut the hair based on a middle part – which I don’t wear. So one side of my hair was longer than the other, and I had all these crazy lengths, and it took at least a year to grow out. The only solace was that it looked really great when I wore it curly. It looked plain awful if I straightened it.

Also: I once had one of those strings in my hair as an 8-year-old – right in the front of my head. Instead of unraveling the string, I decided that cutting it off would be better. We like to call those years – the time of the mini-mohawk.

I have a similar story as Rose. I went to a new guy that my roommate recommended and asked him to cut my hair a little below my chin because if it was at my chin it makes my face look wide. He said, “I don’t think you need to worry about your face looking fat, you need something to downplay your nose.” WTF!! I was so offended. I don’t remember if I liked the haircut or not but I definitely never went back!

Yay for 2 TBSP of Barney Butter. Now that’s what I’m talking about!

Haircut horror – I’ve always had long hair and on a whim decided to chop it all off in my early 20′s. Big mistake – took forever to grow back out. I’ve also had a few issues with bad layers. Don’t like the layered football helmet look!

Delicious looking breakfast and so jealous of your fondue night!

My hair horror story dates back to a few days before the start of high school. I wanted a new look, and thought short hair was the way to go. Not smart because I have really thick hair. It looked absolutely heinous on my head and I knew it was a bad cut when the most untrendy girl in my class told me that I had a good cut. My freshman year picture brings back bad memories every time!

How about the time when I moved to a new city, got my hair cut, and the next day…on the way to church…my husband turned to me and said, “You know, I think your haircut is a mullet”
Or the time when I decided to spend a lot of money (over $100 on just the cut) to finally fix my hair woes…the stylist took a personal phone call to set up sushi with friends. He ended up talking for about 20 minutes with the phone wedged between his shoulder and ear while cutting my hair!!

Yummy oats! Can’t wait to see the fondue later!

Hair: One time I got highlights and they were bright blonde! My hair is brown and I requested a lighter golden brown. I was in tears. Anytime my hair is cut slightly too short I am also in tears and throwing things at mirrors!

Breakfast looks yummy. I am anxious to try Barney Butter. My order should be here soon.

I have been Twittering about your recipe and just wish you could blow past this other recipe. LOL

No haircut horror stories here. I’m an easy customer, I bring in pictures with an idea and tell my hair dresser to go to town (and also tell her it will always grow back LOL). One time she didn’t cut it short enough and was kind enough to take more off, for free of course.

hahahaha HORROR STORY: i tried to save money by going to a haircut SCHOOL and one side was totally an entire half inch shorter than the other side. aaaaahhhh. i was too timid to say anything too and i wasn’t entirely sure until i went home and really looked at it,…. i cried !!!! hahaha.

Awesome oats! And I made your pizza last night!!! That should count for a million votes!

Haircut horror: I got a major all over highlighting job done in college, but I thought it was WAY too blond, so I went back to the same stylist to get it fixed. HE was ticked of, so he just starting dumping dark dye all over my hair. It was awful. I ended up finding a new stylist at a different salon to fix it, she came in late and stayed there for hours fixing my hair. Turns out I was her first client EVER. But she did a great job and I have been with her ever since…over 10 years!

I’m a huge fan of wheatberries and have really enjoyed seeing them take a starring role in your morning breakfasts!

As for hair horror stories, I’ve certainly walked away dissatisfied many a time, but it’s my mom whose had the true horror story. She went in for a routine color touch-up (mind you, her hair is dark brown with a tinge of red). She walked away with pink roots! To top that off, the incident occurred the day before my parents drove me up to school for my freshman year, meaning that my mom had no time to get it fixed! She rocked it for a good long weekend, I’d say.

Can’t say I have any horror stories about hair. There’s never been anything catastrophic. I might not have loved it, but nothing that bad.

as for the hair…. my mom fooled me when I was 5 that I was going to get my pretty long flowy hair trimmed…. I used to throw a GIANT fit if she touched my hair….well the hairdresser had orders from my mom to chop it off…. a mushroom cut!! EKKKKKK

Ohhh, fondue sounds fun! I actually loved this haircut, but the first time I cut my hair short was also a summer I was waitressing. I would wear a headband to work and the one I often wore happened to be a rainbow one from my childhood. Well short hair + rainbow accessories = multiple women hitting on me all summer! I continued to rock the hairband though and my guy friends loved it because it brought girls over to our tables!

that IS a mammoth spoon of bb, yum … i think debating about which pictures to post is the most time-consuming part of blogging!
i’ve had sooooo many wretched haircuts because i go to supercuts. every time i go for a trim now, i just plan to wear my hair up and bobby-pinned every day for at least two weeks until things even out a bit!
