Almost Goodbye

January 15, 2009

After work this evening, a few of my “younger” coworkers took me out to celebrate my final days at HSPH with drinks (and dinner) at the nearby Squealing Pig. (I also went to the “Pig” earlier this week for lunch.)

I’m not sure if I was happy or sad about leaving my job, but the beers were a-flowing tonight!

My first and second beers were Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse, which were described with notes of “hazy gold, spicy apple, clove, and banana.” The flavor was interesting and complex, but, at the same time, smooth and delicious.

My third beer, which I probably didn’t need, was a Westmalle Dubbel, a dark, reddish-brown Trappist beer. It was good, but darker and more bitter than I typically like.

For dinner, I finally got to try the Leek & Squash Pizza! Yay! The pizza had braised leeks with pureed roasted squash and sage leaves topped with goat cheese. It was awesome! I ate about half of the pizza (4 slices) and saved half for tomorrow’s lunch. (It was an individual-sized pizza, but still pretty big!)

Young and fun coworkers…

(Horrible photo of me!

Bruce, the Pug

One of my coworkers gave me an enormous pug magnet, which has been stuck to my filing cabinet for years now. I finally decided to take “Bruce” home with me tonight.

Mal was less than impressed with “Bruce.”

(Bruce is on our fridge at home now. He’s quite content.)

My office is having a “Send-Off Brunch” for me tomorrow, so my morning post will probably be later than usual. Just an FYI. ;-) G’night, guys!

I loved your Bruce the Pug magnet, I have a smaller version of it. Obviously a real pug is even better, I have 3 sweet pugs, you can see them at my blog.

By the way, love your daily food blogs of what you consume. My new years goal includes the battle of the bulge, maybe I’ll win this year!

I might not have this right, but I remember you saying you have one of the nike + ipod things? I’m pretty new with mine, and I was wondering how accurate you found the calorie burn to be? I’m not too concerned but was just curious! thanks!

Tina January 16, 2009 at 7:27 am

@D: They’re probably not that accurate, but I also don’t have anything else to compare the number to, like a heart rate monitor. I suppose, it’s a good gauge.
