Yucky

It’s quite the yucky day in Boston this morning. Cold, dark, and windy with a “wintry mix” of rain and snow… all things things that I consider yucky! :-|

My oats, however, were not at all yucky– far from it, actually! :D And, of course, I ate them with a big scoop of Barney Butter.

Gingerbread Oats
Makes 1 serving

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup dry oats
  • 2 tsp molasses
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1/4 cup canned pumpkin

Directions:

  • Combine ingredients; mix well.
  • Cook in microwave for 2 minutes.
  • Stir and enjoy!

In the office, I made myself a mug of coffee with agave nectar and vanilla hemp milk, which doesn’t blend well in coffee and needs constant stirring!

Lululemon’s Ta Ta Tamer

Lululemon Athletica has recently been all the rage in Boston with its new store opening in the Prudential Mall. I haven’t had the chance to visit that location yet (sorry, Chelsea!), but I did visit the Derby Street location this past weekend. The store was gorgeous, the apparel was amazing, and the employees were helpful and friendly. My overall impression of the brand was excellent! :)

I am always on the look-out for quality sports bra. Because of my weird size, I have the worst time finding sports bras that fit properly. As I was told by the Lululemon sales woman, the Ta Ta Tamer Bra comes in a wide range of sizes and is the model with the most support. When I tried on the sports bra at Lulelemon, it honestly blew my mind!! I have never, ever worn a sports bra that fit so well! It was supportive in all of the right places without the awful uni-boob! I put the Ta Ta Tamer to the test yesterday morning during my 4.5 mile run, and it was FANTASTIC! :D Love it! Large chest ladies: definitely check out this sports bra!

And how fun is the name!?! :D

Description:

* I tame, separate, & shape your favorite girls, you shouldn’t have to sacrifice shape for support
* Strategically placed non-stretch panels to maximize your support
* Moisture wicking for maximum comfort during your workout
* Lycra to hold my shape & keep you looking great

Question of the Day

What brand of athletic clothing do you like the most? Bonus question: What running sneakers do you like best?

Morning Tina! I love Lulumelon- I am constantly looking at their yoga pants on line, but there is not an e-commerce shop on their website yet :(
    Your oats look delish, too!
And, I like my Shox, for sure. They work with the iPod and they hold up really well!
    Have a beautiful day, doll!

For running shoes I have 2 pairs I alternate: Asiscs Gel Nimbus and Adidas SuperNova. I LOVE them both.
But, I do believe that each person should find the best shoes for their feet, mileage, body shape etc…!

Your oats sounds delicious, I love gingerbread!

Running shoes, it seems I alternate between Nike and Adidas. I don’t stick to one specific brand because either they aren’t comfortable or I can’t find my size!

Mmm, molasses! That brings deep-flavored oats to a whole new level.

Oh, Lululeman, how I covet thee. I LOVE their stuff, I just can’t trust myself in their store! The colors are so pretty, I think I’d probably end up wearing my running gear out as regular clothing.

I like UnderArmor a lot… they make what is my favorite sports bra thus far, and their cold weather gear is great.

AH! I worked at that lululemon store in Derby St for about 2 years! I recently left the company, but I hope my former co-workers there treated you well. They’re a great bunch of people. The Ta-Ta Tamer IS pretty intense, I know what you’re talking about. You really won’t move an inch with it on.

Also- did you know that lulu offers 15% off to fitness and health professionals through their Research and Design program? Now that you’re working at Healthworks, you’d be eligible. They give you a discount in exchange for going to their website every once and awhile and giving feedback on the clothing.

Megan- e-commere should be up and running by spring 2009! Very exciting. I sure am going to miss my employee discount, haha.
Lulu stuff is REALLY well-designed and manufactured, which is why it’s so expensive, but I hear you guys- even with the discount it wasn’t cheap to outfit myself for work.

Also- thanks for the awesome feedback on my guest post, I loved reading the comments!

The best sports bras for me (I’m kinda big chested too) are by Moving Comfort. The bra style I love, the Maia bra, is similar to the one you bought, Tina – I’m in love! It has underwire (which I thought I would hate), but it turns out it provides the best support.

I’m going to have to check this brand out because I am desperately in need of new sports bras! As far as shoes go, I’ve been a die hard New Balance girl ever since my track and field days in high school – they make great shoes for wide and flat-footed size 11 girls such as myself.

My running shoes are Brooks stability shoes. Love them! They fit my very narrow feet and are not clunky. :D

Too funny I just went the newly opened retail store (before we just had a showroom) yesterday in Philly and bought the boogie crop and the remix hoodie. Softest most comfortable thigns ever!

There stuff is guaranteed for 5 years and they alter for free. Plus all the people there are so into building self esteem and being happy in your skin not the “perfect” body!!

Those oats look great! I can’t wait until my Barney Butter comes. For clothes, I tend to wear Old Navy windpants that I bought a couple of years ago. Otherwise it’s running t-shirts and shorts I got at the college bookstore. I’m short so it’s hard to find running pants that are the right length and aren’t too fitted. For sneakers, I stick to Asics. I don’t do well with Nike and even Brooks wasn’t great for me. Mizuno is a good brand as well.

I just discovered Liliemon here in Philly on Monday! I had been in the market for a warmer running pullover with reflectives on it for a while and found the cutest, most functional one of all….check it out (I highly recommend it if you plan on doing any outdoor/post work running in Boston this winter:

    http://www.lululemon.com/products/womens/tops/jackets_vests/windsprint_jacket

It has birds on the arms and up the back that are the reflectors! Plus a pocket in the back for your ipod and a hole that you string the ear phones up through so it’s not dangeling the whole run. The hood was also designed for runners so you still have your peripherals and the BEST PART….the sleeves roll around your hands if they get cold. So freaking cool.

I LOVE LULU!!!! I go to the store so much here in San Antonio that the girls and guys that work there know me by name. The clothes are awesome and work well. I work out a lot and I don’t mind dropping money on good quality clothes. I agree with Erin, Mal would like the clothes like the shorts. Running shoes Brooks but I now using Saucony. I ran my first marathon in Brooks glycerin and even though they were well passed their time they did the job.
On another note on Lulu, they are always trying to make their products better. I had the chance to sit in on a product meeting here in SA and they wanted to know what we loved and didn’t love about our favorite workout clothes. They took those ideas back and they actually use them.
