Virtual Training Group

Welcome to the Virtual Training Group page!

A number of you guys expressed interest in a Virtual Training Group to help support one another and keep us motivated until race day, so I set up this page to document our journey. I’ll update this page frequently with anything and everything related to my own 5K training– from my daily workouts and running tips to my successes and struggles.

I’d also like for this page to be a place where you can write about your own training as well as share information with other readers in the comment section.

Use the Virtual Training Group webpage to:

  • Record your workout
  • Track your progress (time, distance, etc.)
  • Share a workout or running route
  • Set a goal
  • Share your favorite running resources
  • Post a running playlist
  • Ask for advice
  • Find support and encouragement

I ran a 5k for Thanksgiving and my goal was to just run the whole way without walking (I just started running). I haven’t yet signed up for another race but I definitely want to improve my 5k time. I’m hoping this group will help! Thanks so much Tina!

I am going to start training in January for a 5K in May. Made a pact with my sister in law on Christmas day to do this!

I haven’t picked my race yet, but really want to work on my time. My last (and first ever!) 5K was kinda pathetic -LOL!

I’m beginning to train for the Pocono Marathon Run for the Red in May. It’s been nearly a decade since I ran a marathon so I need all the inspiration I can find!

AWESOME idea, and the perfect timing for me! I was literally scouring the web this afternoon and inputting various 5Ks into my Google calendar. My goal is to run 3-4 days a week and supplement the others with alternative training to help prevent the recurrence of a knee injury from a marathon 5 years ago.

Love the idea that others are on board too, and look forward to hearing from you all as you train!

Awesome! I recently ran my first 5k and 10k, and am shooting for a half marathon in March. I am pretty nervous about it! Excited, too, but my plan is to take it slow and steady, and focus on my long-term running and lifestyle goals before thinking about race goals. But how awesome would it feel to complete a half marathon!

    Thanks Tina!

I am training for my first marathon, the Seattle Rock and Roll marathon, so I will be running a bunch of 5 and 10k’s before then so this will be great motivation for me!

I’m training for the Tipperary Hill Shamrock Run (4 miles) in Syracuse on March 6th. Even though I don’t live in the area, I’ve done this race with my future sister-in-law for the past two years — it’s hilly, but very fun. If you live nearby and are looking for a run with lots of energy, I encourage you to try it!

Hey bloggies! My sister and I ran the Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving day last year and this year! It is a very simple task for my sister, because she is a runner. Last year, I started the 5K running, but then had to stick with the walkers! I was in much better shape this Thanksgiving and my sister and I ran it in 26 minutes! :) It was a great feeling to realize how far I have come since last year!!

I am training for the Baltimore half marathon next Oct. and I would like to run the Falmouth Road Race in under an hour, its 7.1 miles. I am getting over a broken toe so it will be great to have people to motivate and help me out during the tough road ahead.

Just wanted to get a word of encouragement out there that WE CAN DO THIS despite the snow! I thought it would be nice to encourage each other, because I don’t know about you guys, but the snow has definitely made it harder for me to get out there! BUT WE CAN DO IT!!! :)

Thank you for setting this up! I have never been much of a runner (enjoy yoga, swimming etc) but one of my goals for 2010 is to run a 5k and hopefully move onto longer races. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on good gear to wear while running in the cold weather. Unfortunately I cannot afford to join a gym right now but would like to start training in the next month or so. I live in NYC and it’s super cold right now so I don’t know what the best outerwear would be. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Hey Tina!
I just signed up for the Ras na Heireann 5K in Davis!! A lot of the guys in my office have actually run it the past 2 years so I’m finally joining in! I was always a wimp about running in the cold, but I think I can get over it this year :) So far I have only ran 2 real 5K races, so my PR was 30:50…so my goal is to be uner 30 min :) Hopefully we could meet up that day!

I just signed up for my 1st half marathon! Yikes, I am nervous. My sister, an experienced marathon runner, set me up with a custom training program so I am going to slowly build up my miles. I am running the Delaware Half on May 16th!

I’m training for my first half marathon, the Disney Princess Half on March 7! I’m a “penguin runner” and my 5k PR is 35:31. That one was quite fast for me, and I am very proud of it!

I’m going to do the Fairfield 5K and hope to break my PR of 21 min.

I also hope to do a half marathon, but not sure how my knees will respond. My last 3 days of physical therapy are coming up! The 1/2 is in September, so we’ll see….

I agree I definitely trade bodies with Jessica Biel she is ripppppped! I wish it were my JOB to look that good. Oh well, at least her photos are good motivation to hit the gym.

I think Carrie Underwood & Lauren Conrad also have amazing, healthy & athletic figures.
