Running Machine
Good morning! I’m so happy that it’s Thursday!
It’s actually my “Friday” because I have tomorrow off to do wedding things with my sister. I am, however, meeting her north of the city at 9:00 AM, which means I need to leave my house around the same time I would for work. No sleeping in for me! Oh well. Hanging out with my sister is a million times better than sitting at my desk responding to emails and updating spreadsheets.
Workout
My bed did not win this morning! I woke up no problem and went for a nice, sweaty run! I’ve actually been quite the running machine in the last 24 hours!
Run Stats:
Wednesday Night
- Distance: 3.3
- Time: 30:06
- Pace: 9:04 min/mile
- Calories: 325
Thursday Morning
- Distance: 3.5
- Time: 33:05
- Pace: 9:27 min/mile
- Calories: 335
As you can see, my running pace this morning was much less energetic. My legs felt like a million pounds! Ugh. Don’t ya hate that? After my run, I did a couple sets of squats, lunges, and other strengthening exercises for my legs and behind.
Onto breakfast…
Breakfast was again a repeat of the last few mornings. (How boring!) The combo is just so delicious!!!
Please note: I used the last piece of cranberry loaf this morning, so you won’t be seeing this bowl of oats again anytime soon!
I added almond milk and a scoop of peanut butter to the mix this morning.
Winter Tip
From Self magazine…
Pre-workout, apply a dab of lotion under socks. Exercise heats up your feet, so the lotion will melt easily into your dry cracks and soften your soles.
Question of the Day
What’s your favorite holiday movie?
My old school favorite is How the Grinch Stole Christmas (cartoon version); my new favorite is Elf.

I love both of those movies…two of my other faves are A Charlie Brown Christmas and Christmas Vacation…I try to watch them every year
Happy Thursday!

Elf is definitely my new school favorite. You can’t beat Wil Ferrell! I liked the old school shows with Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer that they would show on TV. BTW – I don’t think your breakfasts are boring, even if they are the same for 2 weeks straight! Sometimes you get in a groove, and as long as it’s healthy, who cares if you have it every day? I think we can all relate to loving a creation so much you want to eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner! ;p
on Dec 11th, 2008 at 10:54 am
You are a running machine. Impressive! I really like the grinch movie too, although my absolute favorite is It’s a Wonderful Life. I must watch it every december.

Old school: A Christmas Story
New school: Elf

I like The Holiday though for the romantic comedy cuteness.
on Dec 11th, 2008 at 11:00 am
Hey, I just found you thanks to your comment on my blog the other day!
Old school Xmas faves: A Christmas Story! Grinchy cartoon.
New school: Love Actually
Oddball: Breakfast at Tiffaney’s. Not Xmasy at all, but a tradition for me and my Mom.
on Dec 11th, 2008 at 11:00 am
Yay for quality time with sis!
I LOVE A Christmas Story, the clay version of Rudolph, and the cartoon Frosty the Snowman…old school rocks!

Wow, you run so fast! Go Tina!
Have so much fun tomorrow with your sister!
Your breakfasts have looked beautiful everyday. Definitely FAR from boring. You should see my b-fasts; I’ve been eating the exact same thing for like a month…. haha

Nice running!!!!!!!!! sometimes i’ll do double days (AM and PM run and i feel pretty bad-@$$ hehehe…) and it’s SO interesting, i find i am much more of a night runner– generally faster, even if i ran in the morning… my legs are so “groggy” in the morning. i really wish i was more of a morning person tho.
on Dec 11th, 2008 at 11:04 am
Cool tip about the socks!
I love those old school Rudolf, and Frosty the Snowman!

Ahh Elf is new classic
I’m from Boston as well and have recently gotten into running but I’m concerned that I won’t be able to keep it up through the cold Massachusetts winter. I HATE running on the treadmill… how long do you continue running outside for through the winter?
But hey, maybe with the crazy weather we’ve been having (60 yesterday?) I can keep it outdoors!
on Dec 11th, 2008 at 11:14 am
I love Elf! My favorite is One Magic Christmas. Kind of obscure but a family favorite.
on Dec 11th, 2008 at 11:17 am
Diane,
I run outside until the weather gets too cold for me– pretty much anything below 50 degrees. I was still running outside in November– thanks to the weirdo warm weather we have been having here! Running on a treadmill is boring, but I watch TV and switch up the pace and incline to keep things interesting.

My first time posting a comment but have been a reader for a while – couldn’t miss this question though! Totally random but my favorite holiday movie is probably A Mom For Christmas – totally early ’90s with Olivia Newton John – my sisters and I cant resist. I love reading your blog – keep up the good work!
on Dec 11th, 2008 at 11:23 am
My fave holidays movies are Elf, Christmas Vacation and Home Alone. I love quoting home alone, “Buzz, your girlfirend, woof!” “Kevin you are such a disease!” I watched it last night as a matter of fact
Annie is not a holiday movie, but it alwasy comes on tv this time of year so that counts as a holiday fave right?
on Dec 11th, 2008 at 11:30 am
Good running stats – even if your legs did feel heavy. Mine tend to feel that way in the morning more than the evening. Do you experience that?
on Dec 11th, 2008 at 11:35 am
Great tip for soft feeties. I love National Lampoons Christmas Vacation.
on Dec 11th, 2008 at 11:38 am

Thanks so much for sharing the tips on staying healthy over the holidays. I think some of them will really help! My favorite Christmas movies are Christmas Vacation and Home Alone. Happy Holidays!
on Dec 11th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
I love to watch “Love Actually” at Christmas time. Even thought it isn’t really a Christmas movie (the movie takes place around Christmas)my boyfriend I watch it every year around the holidays! We watched it Sunday night!
on Dec 11th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
My favorites are Christmas Vacation and The Christmas Story. When we were in Cleveland last year we got to tour the actual house they used for the film, with the orginal leg lamp!

on Dec 11th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
thanks for the winter tip!
lol sooo cute. Ava my daughter was not too into the piggy thing…she looked at me like i was crazy when i asked her. lol
favorite xmas movie: its a wonderful life.
ha-although maybe a new favorite is a christmas story b/c my little girl last night was eating and we were doing the usual ‘here comes a choo choo train’ and it reminded me that in a christmas story the mom says to the youngest son while they are eating “SHOW MOMMY HOW THE PIGGY’S EAT” And he starts shoving mashed potatoes in his mouth and has it all over the place by the end of the scene!
on Dec 11th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
I wanted to ask you if you think running on the treadmill is easier than running outside? I was so used to running on the treadmill that when I started running outside it felt much more difficult?!?
on Dec 11th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Great Tip!! I will have to try that in the AM. Fav Christmas movie is Home Alone and Love Actually ( who would not love Hugh Grant dancing around)
on Dec 11th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
I’m sure you have been asked this a dozen times before but are you training for a marathon? Just curious
I am training for a half in may!

Jenna,
Physically, I think running outside is definitely harder. Mentally, I think running on a treadmill is harder. I guess it just takes some time for my body (and brain) to adjust to the different environments.
Angela,
Nope, no marathon in my future. I am hoping to run a half marathon in May though. I just need the courage to sign up!

on Dec 11th, 2008 at 2:02 pm

on Dec 11th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
I love the Santa Clause! The first one…the others just weren’t as good. Though I must admit, ELF if one of the ONLY Will Ferrell movie I like…just not big on that kind of comedy.
on Dec 11th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
I will def. try that lotion tip later tonight! My feet get so bad in the winter!
I totally feel you on the legs feeling heavy. Mine feel the same way today! Spinning and kickboxing will have that affect!

I hate when I run and my legs feel like dead weight. Especially on a sort of long run.
