Pea Soup, Please!
I had no idea that I liked split pea soup so much! I was always somewhat hesitant to try it, despite liking peas quite a lot. In general, pea soup gets a bad rap, which is understandable because it looks gross, but it’s actually quite tasty. I recommend trying it, if you haven’t already! You might be pleasantly surprised!
Today’s lunch was the other half of the can of Split Pea with Ham & Swiss Cheese Soup that I made on Sunday. It held up well in the fridge as leftovers and reheated as lunch today. On the side: a clementine and crackers, which I used to scoop up the thick soup.

Soup + crackers + clementine was a very filling lunch! The split pea soup sat in my stomach like a rock!
Afternoon Snack
The office goodies never end! After lunch, my boss snagged some leftover cheesecake brownies to share with the office. Cheesecake brownies!? Seriously? All of these treats are a serious temptation for me! Instead of my healthy snack of Chobani and Kashi Go Lean Crunch, I opted for a cheesecake brownie and a small coffee from D&D. Sadly, I know this snack is not going to hold off my hunger all afternoon! Grrrr. I should know better!

How to Tie Your Running Shoes
Sure, go ahead, laugh. But there’s a good chance that you aren’t doing it right.
Running News
In addition to the Run to Remember, I also registered for the Ras na hEireann U.S.A. 5K in March 2009. The same people, who put on the Jingle Bell 5K, also do this race– it’s another fun one, complete with costumes and post-race brews. Bostonians: Let me know if you sign-up for the Ras– maybe we can all meet up!
Also, I added a running page to my blog. I’ve been getting a lot of running questions lately, and I would like to chronicle my training for the half marathon, so be sure to check back every now and then. (P.S. The entire Fitness tab will be getting an overhaul in the coming weeks. It’s a mess!)

That snack may not hold off your hunger, but it sure looked tasty!
on Dec 16th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Hahaha – my mom ties granny knots!! It always bothered me when I was little.

Confession: I never learned to tie my shoes! I mean I tie them where I have the two bunny ears and I tie the bunny ears in a knot, but I never learned the whole loop around thing. I got too confused as a kid and gave up when I discovered my way of tieing them. It’s amazing how 20 some odd years later I still don’t get the loop around way of tieing…lol…

Like 6 of the guys in my office ran that race last St. Patty’s day weekend! I think they are already signed up to do it again. I’m hesitant to sign up for that one because it can be so cold then!! How do you get through the cold weather running…it always hurts my throat!

That video totally made me laugh, but it was informative. I do not tie my shoes right, and now I am going to try to correctly tie them!

Pea soup rocks! I love the stuff!
Cheesecake brownies?! OMG!
on Dec 16th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
mmm . . . pea soup. Peas are not my favorite veggie at all. But I love pea soup. It is realy good with a grilled ham and cheese. Cheese cake brownie sounds AMAZING. I would have given in too. The shoe tying is interesting. This is embarassing to admit but I never learned to tie my shoe the 1 bunny ear way. I could never do it right. I always do 2 bunny ears and tie in a knot like I learned in kindergarten. haha

That little video was so unexpected!
I’m glad you love pea soup so much. I can’t remember what it’s called, but I know there’s a children’s book out there that gives it a bad rap!

I LOVE SPLIT PEA SOUP!!! SO comforting and divine! Erin, TRY IT! I make it with JUST split peas, carrots, onions, and chicken stock and water and it’s SO good!!! Mmmm <3
OH and that video? I was studying it hard core. At least I studied something today! 2 points, JW!

That video is amazing
I’m totally tying granny knots! But NO LONGER!!!
I’ve never tried split pea soup before – it’s the texture thing. But now I might have to get over it and give it a go – hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised!

Pea soup really does get a bad rap – I’m glad you’re trying to bring it back into style
It’s one of my favs.

Wow. I haven’t had pea soup since childhood, but oddly enough it DOES sound good right now!! And that cheesecake dessert? Whoa.

Tempting.

love split peas soup too!!! I like its texture and creaminess.
hahhaa…..very useful video! I have to show it to my bf (he has to tie all the time… there’s something wrong with his method definitely)
on Dec 16th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Mmm, you should make your own pea soup – it’s so easy and comforting! I like your running page…have you picked a training program for your half? Let me know if you need one – I have a good one that is very good for injury prevention.

Faaaabulous soup & snack!!
on Dec 16th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
YES! haha thanks for that video – as a kid I was teased for tying my shoes “weird” because for some reason I couldn’t tie the bunny ears way. haha, look who’s been tying their shoes right all along! My inner elementary schooler is gloating and jumping happily inside of me.
on Dec 16th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
We should start some kind of challenge to stay away from office goodies whenever possible. I just fell victim to something similar. SO HARD to say no to office sweets…
on Dec 16th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
as i was watching the video – I looked down and saw 2 granny knots! haha. Now I have correct reef knots! BUT, I always used my shoes coming untied to take a quick break from running.
on Dec 16th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
tina!!!!! we should run the race togeether!! perhaps we could get a little healthworks sponsorship goin’ on too
yay, that’d be great fun!!
on Dec 16th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Yum to split pea soup and crackers! We nearly had the same lunch except I had an apple in side instead of a clementine.
on Dec 16th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
love the soup one of my faves, and that video is quite interesting !
on Dec 16th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Love the brownie and coffee! Now that is a yummy snack!
on Dec 16th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
I had split pea soup for lunch too! You should definitely try making it..it’s ridiculously easy. 1 bag dried split peas, 2 cans chicken broth, 3 c. water, carrots, celery. put it all in a pot, bring to a boil, then let it simmer until the peas fall apart! (1-2 hours) SO GOOD!
