NYE Eats + 7 Mile Run
Happy New Year’s Eve, blogland! I hope everyone has wonderful plans to ring in the new year, surrounded by the people you love most!
(I apologize in advance for my photos being out of order. I have no clue why I chose to upload them this way! What can I say, I’m weird.
)
Lunch
I had a lovely pizza + salad combo for lunch this afternoon. Salad ingredients included: arugula, spinach, carrots, grape tomatoes, roasted brussels sprouts, brown rice, black beans, salsa, pumpkin seeds, and balsamic vinegar. Pizza ingredients included: sun-dried tomatoes, marinara sauce, provolone cheese, red onions, Granny Smith apple, bacon, and turkey. I ate quite a variety of nutritious and filling foods at lunch today! Love that!
Breakfast
Breakfast was my favorite bowl of banana oatmeal with two spoonfuls of Barney Butter. I’m obsessed with this oatmeal combo!
I also had a glass of iced coffee made with chocolate soy milk and agave nectar. Mal has been drinking chocolate soy milk in his iced coffee for months, and now I know why! It is delicious– creamy and chocolately!
Afternoon Snack
It’s basically a blizzard outside, which, for some reason, makes me crave hot cocoa. It must be from all of those snowy days as a kid. We’d always be welcomed home with a warm mug of cocoa (with Fluff!) after an afternoon of sledding.
As an afternoon snack today, I whipped up a sweet treat: a mocha (1/2 coffee, 1/2 cocoa), two Oatmeal Date Cookies (one topped with Barney Butter), and a Lindt chocolate truffle.
How cute is this packet of chocolate cocoa?! I used about half of it in my mocha, and saved the other half for later.
Workout
I tried out my new running sneakers this afternoon, which are excellent! My left hip still hurt, but not nearly as bad as usual. My shin splint was also much better today! Feeling healthy, I pushed myself to run farther than usual. Around mile 6, I was still feeling pretty good, so I pushed it another mile! I haven’t run 7 miles in for-ever! Honestly, I can’t even remember the last time I did! Let’s hope this running health carries through the new year!
Run stats:
- Distance: 7 miles!
- Time: 59:35
- Pace: 8:30 min/mile
- Calories: 687
I hope that everyone has a happy and healthy New Year!!! Mr. Mal and I are off to celebrate with friends at a house party. See ya next year!!

happy new year, tina! i’ve been a regular reader for a while, but i’ve never posted. something i would love to start doing is running. i’ve tried in the past, but i tend to lose motivation. i was wondering if you have always loved to run or if you found it difficult at first (like me)??

@bee: The 2 biggest things for me are setting a milage goal for the week (or month) and changing it up with intervals, new running routes, and playlists. Also, writing down each of my runs with all of the run stats keeps me motivated to run farther and faster. Also, check out my running tips: http://carrotsncake.com/fitness/running
