Fun (Orange) Stuff

Let the orange theme continue! ;-) I had sweet potatoes for lunch and clementines for a snack this afternoon.

About orange foods:

Orange fruits & vegetables are most well known for having lots of beta-carotene. Beta carotene is an antioxidant that is good for your whole body. It keeps the heart healthy and protects against cancer and other harmful diseases. Beta carotene is also converted to Vitamin A in your body. Vitamin A is important for your vision, immune system and your skin. A deficiency can make it hard to see in the dark, you are more likely to get sick and your skin can become dry and rough.

Today’s lunch was leftovers from last night’s Sweet Potato Risotto. (BTW, I’m seriously obsessed with this recipe!!) I was worried about how the risotto would hold up as leftovers, but it did quite well. It was a tad sticky, but still flavorful and delicious. The Parmesan, garlic, and oregano definitely had some overnight staying-power!

Sweet treats: More homemade baked goods from my boss (leftover from yesterday). After lunch, I had another gingersnap cookie and part of a the BEST Oatmeal Raisin Cookie ever! I gave this Oatmeal Raisin Cookie recipe to my boss a few months ago, and she baked them for the office to enjoy. The recipe calls for rum-soaked raisins, which taste a-mazing mixed into the oatmeal cookies! (I actually ate one of these cookies yesterday, but it didn’t make it onto the blog! Oops! )

I had planned to have a blueberry-flavored Chobani and a couple of clementines as a snack today, but my buddy, Blain, forced me get a small half coffee-half hot chocolate beverage from Dunkin Donuts. I know, what a jerk! (I’m totally kidding! Blain ordered one, and it sounded so delicious that I got one too!)

I know that I am going to hell for ordering hot chocolate from D&D for 2 main reasons:

  1. A small (10 oz) has 230 (empty) calories, 7 gram saturated fat, and 29 grams of sugar!
  2. INGREDIENTS: Water, Sugar, Non Dairy Creamer [Contains Partially Hydrogenated Coconut Oil, Corn Syrup Solids, Sodium Caseinate (Milk Derivative), Dipotassium Phosphate, Sugar, Mono-and Diglycerides, Sodium Silicoaluminate, Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Soy Lecithin, Artificial Flavors, Annatto and Turmeric], Cocoa Powder (processed with alkali), Maltodextrin, Whey, Nonfat Dry Milk, Salt, Cellulose Gum, Silicone Dioxide, Natural and Artificial Flavor, Sodium Citrate. Ewwww!

Oh well, I guess 5 oz of the stuff won’t kill me! The clementines will balance it out, right?! Right!? :)

With my purchase, I received a free 2009 calendar with D&D coupons! That should count for something! :D

    peanutbuttalova,

I got the rice from the bulk bins at Hannaford’s. To tell you the truth, I had a little trouble finding it, but I bet Whole Foods or TJ’s would sell it as well.

Oh so many fun things! I love Dunkin Donuts coffee, but we only have 2 here in Nashville, and they are far away. I once drove 20 miles for one of their iced coffees! Oh, and Bare Fruit is the best dried fruit. No added sugar! I don’t know why people always add sugar to dried fruit (with the exception of cranberries). So not necessary. Gotta try that risotto. Makin my mouth wata! Oh, and rum soaked raisins for the cookies…Brilliant.
