The First
GUYS! I have a new computer!!!! It’s incredible! I ended up buying the 13-inch MacBook, and I’m already totally in love with it!
Thanks to all of you who added your two cents about Macs– you were SO RIGHT! I still can’t believe I have a new computer! I’m so excited!!! But guess who is even more excited than me? Mr. Mal is psyched to finally get his laptop back. Being a blogger and all, I would completely dominate his laptop, so he’s glad to have it back!
I’ve mostly used PCs all of my life, so I still have a long way to go with learning all there is to do on my new Mac. (I already figured out how to add a Christmas Countdown widget to my dashboard! Watch out!
) Apple offers free workshops on all sorts of topics to help consumers learn new skills, so hopefully, I will have some time in the next couple of week to attend one. I’d love to learn some new tricks!
Squash Polenta with Asparagus and Feta
Lunch was so delish today! I’ve been meaning to make polenta again for awhile now– I’m so glad I finally did! It’s such a quick and easy meal option… as well as being super filling! It sits in my stomach like a rock!
After cooking the polenta (about 1/3 cup), I mixed in 1/4 cup of canned squash, a few spears of frozen asparagus, and topped it all with feta crumbles. It was such a yummy combination!
My “dessert” was a piece of warm Squash and Prune Bread slathered in Smart Balance. I love the warm, sweet prunes throughout the bread– they’re so soft and chewy.
Small World
We’ve all had those “small world” encounters, like when your old coworker went to high school with your husband’s college friend, who he met freshman year. It happens all the time, right? Anyway, a gal who I went to high school with works for Stonyfield Farm now, and recently stumbled across my blog. Sarah does public relations for the brand and has been doing some blogger outreach to create buzz for Stonyfield’s Oikos Greek Yogurt. She offered to send me coupons for Oikos and other Stonyfield products. I’m already a huge fan of Stonyfield, so it was an offer that I couldn’t refuse!
In addition to coupons, Sarah also sent me two branded Stonyfield knit hats.
Mal “called” the green one as soon as I took it out of the package!
Also inside was a cute little reusable bag that expands to a much larger bag when needed. I already tossed this in the glove compartment of our car for future use.
Stonyfield goodies + various flavors of Oikos, fat free yogurt, and smoothies…
I love greek yogurt, so I’m really looking forward to trying the Stonyfield brand! Oikos Greek Yogurt reviews to come soon!
THANK YOU, SARAH and STONYFIELD!!! :)
Back later with dinner!

This post includes (almost) all of my favorite things: new Macbook (!!!), polenta, feta, yogurt and free things! I’m oh-so jealous about all of it! Especially since my computer crashed last night
Maybe that means a trip to the Apple store for me?

I am intimidated by Mac books because I only use pcs at work. Is it hard to go from one to the other?
on Nov 11th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
Runeatrepeat,
I don’t think it’s too hard, but it does take some getting used to. I also work on a PC at work, but once I am on the Mac at home, my brain goes into Mac mode.

Congrats on the new computer!
I love Stoneyfield! I’ve been eating it for years since it was one of the few organic yogurts you could find until recently.

Yay Mac! You should learn how to use spaces – I usually use anywhere from 4 to 9 spaces. I think now I have 9. You can have different programs open in each space and it makes blogging and organizing stuff SO much easier. If you ever have questions feel free to ask
Bobby (the bf) actually works for Microsoft in the Mac division so we have lots of experience

I love Stoneyfeild milk and yogurt. I recently tried Okios and it is GOOD! It almost reminded me of cream cheese. I had plain with almond slices and cinnomon. It left me full for a LONG time! It would be a good HW night shift snack.
on Nov 12th, 2008 at 1:50 am
Yay macs! I got mine a year ago and I love it!
on Nov 12th, 2008 at 2:30 am
Yay for a new computer!!
And yay for Stoneyfield!! I’m in love with their frozen yogurt right now. After I got my Chobani samples I fell in love with greek yogurt… I found plain and vanilla Oikos at a nearby store, but I can’t find any other flavors!!
Tell your friend I would love her forever for some samples!!
on Nov 12th, 2008 at 2:33 am
WOW you got a very nice looking computer. CONGRATS!
So cool that you ran into a past classmate. What a great opportunity to sample some Stonyfield/Oikos products. I would love the opportunity to do something like that sometime.
Can’t wait to read your reviews on the products.

Macbook Pros are “required” for the architecture program here.. I wish I would have known that those “…” were really JUST “…” because I wouldn’t have spent the money on a new laptop when I had a practically new HP laptop.
BUT.. since I didn’t know, and since I made the MacSwitch, I am very happy. There will be some inevitable irritations (some software not being compatible.. trying to run parallels.. etc.) but now that I look at it in hindsight there were plenty of irritating things on PCs too! With as much of a planner as you (and I) are, I’m going to predict right now that you’ll fall in LOVE with iCal!
on Nov 12th, 2008 at 2:55 am
Oh.. and I definitely didn’t know mac offered workshops!! Are they at the apple store on Boylston? And is that only if you bought from there..?
on Nov 12th, 2008 at 3:46 am
OOh lucky girl! You’ll be golden on yogurt for weeks!
Very pretty computer. I have the same one in white, which was preceded by the black one, preceded by the original powerbook. I seem to have a problem with spills… you think I’d learn not to eat near my computer!
on Nov 12th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
SO jealous of your Mac!! I want one – need to save up for awhile! and the squash polenta looks great – very creative!
on Nov 12th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Love all the stuff in this post – computers and free yogurt – how nice is life??
on Nov 12th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Congrats on the new laptop! I’m sooo jelous… mine is a serious joke. I need to take a picture of it sometimes for kicks. It’s ghet-to!!!
So many free googies in one week, you’re one lucky girl!

My boyfriend is about to get the new Mac, but has been hearing about screen problems. Supposedly, the screen in really glarey and hard to see. Do you have this problem?
on Nov 12th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
Julia,
Not at all! The screen is A-MAZING! It’s probably the best I’ve ever used– it makes the colors and images look so vibrant! Tell him to get one!
