Stonyfield Giveaway!!!

My Review

I tried my first Oikos Greek Yogurt (vanilla flavor) yesterday afternoon. The vanilla, which is just 20 calories more than the plain, has an impressive 15 grams of protein, 20% of your daily recommended calcium, and is DE – LIC – IOUS!!! It’s an awesome yogurt with a terrific, rich flavor, and a creamy and very smoooooth, almost custard-like texture. The consistency sort of reminds me of vanilla pudding, but the taste isn’t as nearly as sweet. In fact, the vanilla flavor was subtle and very natural tasting. The vanilla flavor, in particular, would make a wonderful dessert (or snack) with granola, berries, or chocolate chips mixed in! :) Oikos also comes in plain, honey, and blueberry flavors. I’ll be sure to review each as I try them.

If you’re curious, in comparison to Fage, Oikos is a little more tart tasting, but has a much smoother consistency– more “melt in your mouth” than Fage.

And, finally, the especially wonderful thing about Oikos is that it’s organic, which means it’s better for the earth and for you! :D

Stonyfield Blogger Bites

The Stonyfield website has all sorts of cool stuff on it, including a store finder, coupons, and recipes. Their newest website feature is a recipe submission tool, called “Blogger Bites,” where blogger recipes will be featured on the recipe homesite and will link back to the blog it came from. If you come up with a recipe using yogurt and want to submit it, you can do so here. Stonyfield gets over 300,000 hits on their recipe page alone each month and it could be a good way to increase traffic to your site.

Giveaway Details!!!!!

To enter the Stonyfield contest just leave a comment about your favorite yogurt add-ins by 5:00pm today. I will randomly choose 5 winners at tonight’s dinner post. The lucky winners will each receive a Stonyfield hat, a free Oikos coupon, and a Stonyfield coupon book. Wahoo!!! :D

Awesome contest!! When I was still in high school I always mixed grape nuts into my yogurt.. ALWAYS. I wouldn’t eat it plain. Now that I’m all grown up, I like to mix in all kinds of different cereals (mainly cheerios, kashi h2h or GoLean, or Puffins!), plus sometimes chocolate chips, or banana, or graham crackers!! I guess basically anything that makes me have to chew while eating the yogurt. :)

    Hi Tina!

It may sound weird but chickpeas are my favorite with yogurt! I sautee them for a few minutes in a splash of olive oil then mix them in with yogurt and cajun seasonings. It’s sort of an Indian-type meal and lets me eat yogurt for dinner!

In celebration of fall, I’ve been mixing plain Greek yogurt with pumpkin puree, pumpkin butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a crushed up graham cracker. It tastes just like pumpkin pie!

I also love mixing a tablespoon of raspberry jam into plain Greek yogurt and adding in some dried berries, almonds, and chocolate chips.

As far as add-in’s go, I love pumpkin puree, agave nectar, dark chocolate chips, apple butter, pumpkin butter, peanut/cashew/almond butter, cranberry sauce… not all together, of course. Lately, with pomegranates coming into season, I’ve been enjoying plain yogurt with pom seeds and a little honey or agave nectar! Amazing!

It’s all a matter of getting the right consistency/sweetness combination. Here are my favorites:
    * Frozen cherries, peaches, almonds, almond extract, Greek yogurt on waffles
    * Fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, etc.), lemon peel, rum essence, mint, european yogurt or kefir with TJ’s high fiber
    * Fresh strawberries & kiwi, orange peel, Grand Marnier, kefir, Barbara’s shredded spoonfuls
    * Canned pumpkin, pumpkin spice, Greek yogurt, agave nectar, Barbara’s Grain Harvest
    * Cranberry sauce (cinnamon, cranberries, apples, agave), mango chunks, Greek yogurt, Weetabix biscuits
    * Yogurt parfait: thick-rolled oats. Greek yogurt (soaked overnight with agave & rum essence) topped with mango chunks, frozen cherries, shredded coconut & toasted pecans.
    * Use it in smoothies to balance out the sweetness of some fruit.
    * Use it in parfaits: angel food cake, vanilla cream, fresh berries & yogurt.

Savory favorites: mix with mustard as a salad dressing; mix with crushed garlic, coriander and cumin; mix with curry powder; use it as a topping for gratins (instead of heavy cream); I also use it as a dressing for a salad of roasted beets and fried capers.
