Leonardo da Veggie

I don’t consider myself a vegetarian, but my taste preferences are definitely moving in that direction! More and more, I find myself choosing the vegetarian option over the meat option. I originally started doing this because I wanted to incorporate more veggies into my diet, but I’ve slowly started to enjoy (and crave) these choices much more. Who would have guessed?!

My buddy, Blain, has been helping me a lot with the blog and my new Mac, so I decided to treat him to lunch today as a way to thank him. We decided to have bagel sandwiches at Bruegger’s. I ordered theĀ Leonardo da Veggie sandwich on an asiago cheese bagel, which came with light herb garlic cream cheese, muenster cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, roasted red peppers, and red onions. It was fan-tastic! :D

I’m such a nerd, but I thought this was funny…

Bagel Bellybutton!!!

The Leonardo da Veggie was one filling sandwich! It took me a little while, but I ate the whole thing!

For my after-lunch-sweet-treat, I ordered a small pumpkin spice coffee to go. I’m enjoying it as I type this post. :)

Photo Bloopers

Some of you may have experienced firsthand eating a meal with a food blogger. Today, for instance, before I even thought about diving into my delicious-looking bagel sandwich, I needed to first take some photos. Blain has eaten meals with me in the past and knows the drill, but today he commented on how many shots I took of my lunch.

A number of factors influence how many photos I take– the lighting, atmosphere, who is dining with me, the “interesting-ness” of the meal/snack, etc. Some meals, like my morning oatmeal, are a piece of cake to photograph. I’ve done it so many times, just 3-4 photos is usually all I need. From those, 1-2 make it onto the blog.

Maybe I was just having trouble taking pictures today, but I ended up snapping 15 photos– and from those, just 5 made it onto the blog. These are all of the photos that I took at Bruegger’s this afternoon, including the “photo bloopers.” Food bloggers, does this happen to you too? Or do I need to seriously work on my photography skillz?

Afternoon Snack

After that big lunch, I’m not at all hungry. But, I am prepared with a Cinnamon Roll Larabar and Kit Kat, if my stomach begins to grumble… or some crazy, intense chocolate cravings kick in! Hey, it’s Friday! :)

New Blog Feature

I finally figured out how to use plugins last night, so I added a ShareThis link at the bottom of each post. The ShareThis option provides a quick and simple way for for you to add a post to various social bookmarking sites, like Digg, Stumble, Facebook, MySpace, etc. You can also use the ShareThis link to send an email to friends or family about a post you see on the blog. So, if you see a recipe, restaurant review, workout or anything else on Carrots ‘N’ Cake that you would like to share with others, please feel free to do so! Happy sharing! :D

That’s because veggies are delicious! I am not sure I’ve seen you eat baked tofu. You should give it a try!

I take lots of pictures! Many many many at night when the light is bad.

I take a lot of photos for each of my blog entries, so I have good options to choose from when it comes time to post. But I’m not photographing everything I eat, so it’s not a hassle! And I like to play food photographer. :-P

I’m starting to bulk up more on veggies and reduce the meat as well. I love it though so I know it will never go away fully, but I definitely start craving veggie days.

I was just thinking about the picture thing too! I take a ton of photos especially if it’s going to be a featured recipe. But usually only two or so will make it into the blog. And bloopers I have all the time. I’ll take a pic and then notice my laundry room door was open and you can see the washer. Or something along those lines. So funny!

i was actually thinking about this today! funny that you mentioned it. sometimes the lighting is weird, or the arrangement of the meal isn’t visually pleasing, or something just doesn’t look right. i’m a very artistic person, so i like everything to look pretty. and sometimes food photography is just plain fun!
i really like the looks of that bagel sandwich. delicious :D

I usually have a ton of bloopers, sometimes the lighting is bad, shadows are weird, or whatever. There are times the people I eat with just tell me to eat my food before it gets cold. But then there are days I just want to eat, and I don’t care.

Your bagel looks really good. I wish that there was a Brueggers around here, I’d be all over that! :)

I take about 10-15 photos per meal too! They’re all hanging out on my computer for a rainy day :)

So glad you added the Share This feature – I sent one of your posts to my mom (about Sunday night blues), so I’ll be sure to use it!

Well, since I am super new to the food blog world my photography skills are a bit shaky! I need to work on better presentation…I like everything to be neat and pretty, but since I am new to this I find myself snapping pics in the car VERY quickly resulting in blah photos! But, I worked on it today though!

Have a good afternoon, happy Friday!

That sandwich looks soo good! I just started my blog, and am still working on my picture taking skills. I only take a picture over if it’s blurry!
P.S. I’ve been reading your blog for a while now, but this is my first time commenting. Just wanted to say that I absolutely love your blog. :-)

I tried the recipe you posted from Good Housekeeping for the Apple Oat Crisp and it was amazing! It took a ton of willpower not to eat the whole dish lol! I found it so easy and quick to make! Thanks for posting it! Have a great weekend.

That sandwich looks great! Love your food bloopers! Since I’m a relatively new food blogger, I take like 10 pictures of everything and then pick the best one. It totally depends on the lighting and setting. I’m still working on it. I think your pics look beautiful!

I find it enjoyable to take all the pictures…i have plenty of bloopers to. Especially taking pictures of bars…the lighting is always funny and the flash gets in the way ;-)

I am ALL over that sandwich! I haven’t taken any food pics yet but since I’m slightly anal about things I’m sure I’ll have tons of bloopers before a week has passed!

Ha yes that happens all the time! I usually have at about 5 shots of each item, and doubles of those with flash/no flash. People think I’m “quirky” when they see me do it, to say the least!

Leonardo de Veggie?! All sandwiches should have cute names like that!

augh i end up taking AT LEAST 15 shots of each meal… My camera isn’t the BEST and I always want to make sure I have a good shot to post, I hate it when food bloggers have shoddy food pics! It defeats the purpose!

Cinnamon Roll is my favorite Lara Bar flavor!
I think I take as many picture’s as you and most get deleted. I like to have a large variety of photos to choose from because I’m still not very good at food photography! :)

I have plenty of photo bloopers. Some times I have to take tons of pics of a food and other times I get a good one the first time.
