Burrito!
I seriously love Amy’s Organic products! You can always count on them to be nutritious, delicious, and convenient. Honestly, what more could you ask for???
Today’s lunch was an Amy’s Black Bean Burrito made with black beans and veggies. (Again, this was a grab-and-go lunch on my way out the door this morning. Thankfully, Amy’s = convenient.)
You never know what to expect from a frozen burrito, but today’s lunch was pretty awesome. It had an authentic, somewhat spicy burrito flavor, and inside was a TON of whole black beans, pinto beans, corn, broccoli, and other veggies. The whole wheat flour tortilla was wrapped tightly and never once unraveled, so I didn’t have to worry about it any sort of messy burrito-ness. My only gripes were that the tortilla was a tad on the chewy side and the sodium content was sort of high, but the tasty burrito filling definitely made up for it. I especially liked that it took just under 3 minutes in the microwave to cook. Woo! Fast, healthy food! (I swear, I’m not typically a “Woo Girl“… just added that in for fun!
)
Bottom line: Amy’s burritos are definitely a great option when you need a quick meal!

My sweet treat after lunch was a piece of Chocolate Pumpkin Loaf. Its rich, moist, chocolateness reminds me of Devil’s Food Cake. Mmmmmm!
My planned afternoon snack is Oikos Greek yogurt with strawberries and blueberries. It’s almost snack time!
Healthy Supermarkets
America’s 10 Healthiest Supermarkets
Of course, Whole Foods tops the list, but I’m glad to see that Hannaford made the list too! Mal and I have been shopping at Stop & Shop, purely out of convenience (it’s a 5 minute walk from our apartment), but we recently discovered a nearby Hannaford that has a MUCH higher quality produce and “health” food selection. Did your supermarket make the list?

Hahaha – I totally got that “Woo Girl” reference. LOVE HIMYM!
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
Woo!! I hadn’t heard of those until HIMYM! So funny!
I’ll give a “Woo!” for the Amy’s Burrito! Yum!
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
I’ve heard so many good reviews about Amy’s products, I really need to try some soon!
My only concern is the sodium…..is it too high 24%?

My favorite store, Wegmans, is not on the list. It gets a special mention here though.

I’ a stoppies gal (my sister works there and we get a discount! WOO!), but I’ve been to Hannaford’s and their selections are great. They have a millions bars and the produce/prepared foods section is awesome. I wish we had some fun southern supermarkets up here, they get all the good stuff!
ps – I’m so not a woo girl.

I also recommend Amy’s indian frozen meals. They are really really tasty – and I normally do not like frozen meals at all!

I LOVE Amy’s products! I can’t get enough. Her burritos are particularly good!

Love the Woo Girl reference! Takes me back to my college days…
I often find myself going to 2-3 grocery stores to find everything I need. Although I would love to do it all at Whole Foods, I would end up with hundreds of dollars in produce and fancy cheese every week!
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
I’ve got one of those in my freezer that I’ve been saving – just not sure what for… hmmm. I sort of forgot about it until I saw your post. Guess that will be dinner sometime this week.

HIMYM= one of the funniest shows ever!
Nope, none of those sores are even remotely near me

Thanks for the Amy’s review! I’ve always wanted to try the burritos but was always too chicken too!

we shop at market basket due to them having the best prices but a new Hannaford just opened in our town, it’s very small but we do like that they have their own organic line of foods, Dave is still up in the air where he is going to shop

Huh, I’ve been meaning to try those Amy’s burritos. What I don’t get though, is that with all those beans, veggies and the whole wheat tortilla, how is there only 4g fiber? One time I made a huge batch of much larger burritos (about twice the size of those) and frozen them. I meant to make like 4-5 but the recipe wound up making 9 HUGE ones. Great idea for on the go, I should consider making those again…

Thanks for the Amy’s burrito review. I’ll be sure to try it!
I am a huge TJ’s shopper. Our TJ’s is an hour away, so whenever we get up that way we kind of go crazy!!!
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
Love the HIMYM reference! I’ve been eying those Amy’s burritos. I will have to give them a shot.
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
I’m a Safeway and Trader Joe’s shopper (as well as Whole Foods)…I have to say the produce at TJ’s is kinda lacking, though. They have interesting produce but a lot of it is trucked in from outside the U.S. and not totally fresh.

What a great review! I’ve been wanting to try the Amy’s Burritos but haven’t gotten around to it.
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 4:53 pm
Man I wish more of these stores were in New England! I first saw a Safeway when I was in Oregon in August. I do LOVE WF’s and Trajer Joes, so I guess thats ok. Where did you find Hannaford?!? I used to shop there a lot when I lived in NH during college and a year after.
ps I have the same glass bowls you have your berries in…Crate and Barrel?? I love mine!

YES!! HIMYM!!!
I love most Amy’s products…
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
Yes, when I was living in a dorm at college I was so thankful for Amy’s food!
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Amy’s organics are the best!! I want to try the burritos!!
Sadly, none of our groceries made the list (mississippi, go figure) but hopefully one of these days we’ll get some good ones!
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
Man, i LOVE those burritos……I burned myself out on them a little in college when I would eat multiple a week but I’m just getting back into them. My favorite one is the southwestern one! I’ve never tried a dairy-free one but this one looks delish as well!!
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
I search out TJs and WF near my work, but the stores closest to where I live would so NOT be on that list.
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Tina, Your burrito looks so good, and the packaging is so cute, i know i am a horrible consumer!! It must be so filling and satisfying, a warm and healthy burrito. I just went to WF, first time in a while!
I go to stop and shop in CT, that’s my fav.
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
I love HIMYM! We were just talking about Woo girls at work, along with “talk-blockers”. That is the greatest phrase! And I am glad to hear so many good things about these burritos. I have always wanted to try them, but never took the plunge.
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
WHOLE FOODS IS ON THE LIST!!!!!!!
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Your burrito looks really good, definitely doesn’t look like it was a frozen one.
My supermarket didn’t make the list
But that doesn’t surprise me, they are a pretty small chain. But I do love me some Trader Joes!
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Amys = SO good
I FINALLY GOT MY BARNEY BUTTER YESTERDAY! I haven’t tried it yet but based on your review, I think I’ll love it!
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
That burrito looks so good! I want one, now!
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
I love those burritos…good, easy stuff for lunch!
I’m going to have to get some of this Barney Butter!
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 7:25 pm
I love Amy’s burrito’s! I am so sad. I finished my Barney Butter, but guess what!? I got my food allergy results back today and I am allergic to almonds and peanuts. No more almond or peanut butter for me.
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
MMM Did you make that pumpkin bread? Sounds delicious!! And I have heard nothing but great stuff about Amy’s Organic AND this Barney Butter! I Must get me some!!

I can’t believe people here are willing to pay EIGHT DOLLARS for PB. Blingin’ apparently.
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
I meant the Barney Butter of course
on Nov 20th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
Mine made the top of the list
since I work at Whole Foods I get a pretty nice discount so that is my grocery store. Most people think it is pretty expensive but I recently tested their prices against Shaws and both are pretty equal and you can’t beat the quality of Whole Foods! Have a wonderful trip to New York, I’m jealous.

Even if we aren’t true “woo girls” we all have our moments! hahaha. Love the reference.
on Nov 21st, 2008 at 1:35 pm
