Burrito!

I seriously love Amy’s Organic products! You can always count on them to be nutritious, delicious, and convenient. Honestly, what more could you ask for???

Today’s lunch was an Amy’s Black Bean Burrito made with black beans and veggies. (Again, this was a grab-and-go lunch on my way out the door this morning. Thankfully, Amy’s = convenient.)

You never know what to expect from a frozen burrito, but today’s lunch was pretty awesome. It had an authentic, somewhat spicy burrito flavor, and inside was a TON of whole black beans, pinto beans, corn, broccoli, and other veggies. The whole wheat flour tortilla was wrapped tightly and never once unraveled, so I didn’t have to worry about it any sort of messy burrito-ness. My only gripes were that the tortilla was a tad on the chewy side and the sodium content was sort of high, but the tasty burrito filling definitely made up for it. I especially liked that it took just under 3 minutes in the microwave to cook. Woo! Fast, healthy food! (I swear, I’m not typically a “Woo Girl“… just added that in for fun! :) )

Bottom line: Amy’s burritos are definitely a great option when you need a quick meal! :D

My sweet treat after lunch was a piece of Chocolate Pumpkin Loaf. Its rich, moist, chocolateness reminds me of Devil’s Food Cake. Mmmmmm!

My planned afternoon snack is Oikos Greek yogurt with strawberries and blueberries. It’s almost snack time! :)

Healthy Supermarkets

America’s 10 Healthiest Supermarkets

Of course, Whole Foods tops the list, but I’m glad to see that Hannaford made the list too! Mal and I have been shopping at Stop & Shop, purely out of convenience (it’s a 5 minute walk from our apartment), but we recently discovered a nearby Hannaford that has a MUCH higher quality produce and “health” food selection. Did your supermarket make the list?

I’ve heard so many good reviews about Amy’s products, I really need to try some soon!
My only concern is the sodium…..is it too high 24%?

My favorite store, Wegmans, is not on the list. It gets a special mention here though. :)

I’ a stoppies gal (my sister works there and we get a discount! WOO!), but I’ve been to Hannaford’s and their selections are great. They have a millions bars and the produce/prepared foods section is awesome. I wish we had some fun southern supermarkets up here, they get all the good stuff!

ps – I’m so not a woo girl.

I also recommend Amy’s indian frozen meals. They are really really tasty – and I normally do not like frozen meals at all!

Love the Woo Girl reference! Takes me back to my college days…

I often find myself going to 2-3 grocery stores to find everything I need. Although I would love to do it all at Whole Foods, I would end up with hundreds of dollars in produce and fancy cheese every week!

I’ve got one of those in my freezer that I’ve been saving – just not sure what for… hmmm. I sort of forgot about it until I saw your post. Guess that will be dinner sometime this week. :)

we shop at market basket due to them having the best prices but a new Hannaford just opened in our town, it’s very small but we do like that they have their own organic line of foods, Dave is still up in the air where he is going to shop

Huh, I’ve been meaning to try those Amy’s burritos. What I don’t get though, is that with all those beans, veggies and the whole wheat tortilla, how is there only 4g fiber? One time I made a huge batch of much larger burritos (about twice the size of those) and frozen them. I meant to make like 4-5 but the recipe wound up making 9 HUGE ones. Great idea for on the go, I should consider making those again…

Thanks for the Amy’s burrito review. I’ll be sure to try it!

I am a huge TJ’s shopper. Our TJ’s is an hour away, so whenever we get up that way we kind of go crazy!!!

I’m a Safeway and Trader Joe’s shopper (as well as Whole Foods)…I have to say the produce at TJ’s is kinda lacking, though. They have interesting produce but a lot of it is trucked in from outside the U.S. and not totally fresh.

Man I wish more of these stores were in New England! I first saw a Safeway when I was in Oregon in August. I do LOVE WF’s and Trajer Joes, so I guess thats ok. Where did you find Hannaford?!? I used to shop there a lot when I lived in NH during college and a year after.

ps I have the same glass bowls you have your berries in…Crate and Barrel?? I love mine!

Man, i LOVE those burritos……I burned myself out on them a little in college when I would eat multiple a week but I’m just getting back into them. My favorite one is the southwestern one! I’ve never tried a dairy-free one but this one looks delish as well!!

Mine made the top of the list ;) since I work at Whole Foods I get a pretty nice discount so that is my grocery store. Most people think it is pretty expensive but I recently tested their prices against Shaws and both are pretty equal and you can’t beat the quality of Whole Foods! Have a wonderful trip to New York, I’m jealous.
