A Little of This

…and a little of that basically sums up lunch. I got my hair cut downtown this morning, so by the time I arrived home, I was starving! Again, I threw together a quickie meal.

I started with a mug of Butternut squash soup, which took just 90 seconds to warm-up in the microwave.

On the side: organic wheat thins and TJ’s peanut butter-filled pretzels. I also munched on a few peanut butter-filled pretzels straight from the bag. I need to serve myself a portion in a small bowl or on a plate– otherwise, I eat them all! Once I start, I can’t stop!

Together…

Smoothies were on the agenda for today, so I decided to incorporate mine into lunch. Unfortunately, our blender died mid-blend, so our smoothies turned out less than stellar, but it was fun to eat mine with a spoon. The best part about our blender dying? No clean up! We threw the whole thing out! I guess we know what’s on the top our Christmas list this year!

The reason that Mal and I wanted to make smoothies so badly today was because of a sample of You Shake from the makers of You Bar, who I mentioned in the early days of the blog. The You Shake prodcut is a customized protein shake that you design in the same way you build a bar on the You Bar website. For the You Shake, you select the type of protein, flavors, fruit, sweeteners, and infusions you want in your customized protein shake. You design your own, and then You Bar sends them to you in convenient packages.

The verdict: Yummy! Mal and I shared a Vanilla Dream package in our strawberry smoothie. The vanilla flavor sort of came through, but it’s hard for just about any protein powder to compete with strawberry. The package added 16 grams of protein and 15% iron to our smoothies… not too shabby.

After my workout, I snacked on a Strawberry Crispiscrumptious JamFrankas bar. It was good, especially as a small snack, but again, I’m still more of a fan of the regular Larabars. I also ate a spoonful of Barney Butter

We’re having a brunch at our apartment tomorrow, so I still have lots more to do before going out tonight! I’m off again!

Haha!!! I love how you turned the “dying blender” situation into a positive one, about having no clean-up to do – love it!! :-D

    Larabars > Jamfrakas bars.

Enjoy the rest of your Saturday!!

May I suggest buying a Magic Bullet? I’m a smoothie freak, and that thing is perfect for blending – it also comes with grab n go containers with lids, so you can just make your smoothie quick in the morning and throw it in your bag!

what a bummer about the blender, but hey, no clean up is great news! :)
That’s really cool how you can custom make your own protein powder. Thanks for the info, I think I am going to go check it out!
Hope you have a great rest of the day! :)

The BF’s blender died (and by died I mean he dropped it and broke it) a while back and we soooo need a new one! I am a smoothie addict in the summer.

I have been wanting to try those You bars and shakes. I think I might have to head over to the site now.

I agree about the JamFrakas. The LaraBars are better, but I think they are good for a small snack.

I love the pictures that you took of lunch, they are very artistic!

That sucks about the blender, but at least it was easy to clean! Hopefully, you’ll get something cool for a replacement! And thank you for sharing about the You Shake, I’ve never heard about it and will be checking it out!

Sorry about the blender- at least now it will be easy to decide on an xmas gift! I didn’t know there was a similar product to youbar (which I’ve also never tried) for shakes- but it’s super worth looking into. thanks for the linK!
