    YAY! CONTEST! WHOO HOO!

I think everything makes a yummy sanwich so it’s hard for me to pinpoint just one ingredient, so my ideal sandwich would have to be:

-2 slices of Arnold Multi-Grain Bread (I have recently fell in love with this bread)
    - 1 slice of Kraft American Cheese
    - a mixture of mayo and Frank’s Red Hot Hot Sauce (this stuff is the bomb)
    -lettuce
-Boar’s Head Buffalo Chicken Deli Meat

    YUMMMM!

I also like tuna and a bit of pickle relish – a lighter alternative to tuna salad!

Ok, so I recently tried a sandwich with grilled tofu (marinated in spicy garlic sauce) with lettuce…and I debated over a condiment (mustard, mayo, red pepper hummus?). I finally decided on fat free sour cream, which seemed weird at the time but I went for it. The flavors were perfect together! :)

I love these contests you and Kath are doing, such a good idea! Anyway, I just discovered this amazing sandwich at Cafe Ula in Jamaica Plains and it is my new definition of the perfect sandwich! It is a roasted Sweet Potato sandwich with avacado, Monterey Jack cheese, tomato, red onion, sprouts, tanini poppy seed spread, all on semolina bread from high rise bakery. I highly recommend this cafe, they have amazing sandwiches and a really nice atmosphere. It is located in the old brewery building which I’m told is a new hip place for new vendors in the JP area.

As for savory sammies- well give me some light deli ham, a laughing cow that I mix with lots of cumin and a touch of hot sauce, and then put it together with some spinach, sauteed peppers and onions, and a little sauteed cabbage (in spices of course)- its sort of a twist on a cuban…Ill even add pineapple sometimes! Since discovering I’m allergic to peanut butter and various tree nuts last year, I finally found an alternative- sunbutter! It’s made from sunflower seeds and tastes almost like peanut butter. There’s nothing like it with some strawberry preserves. Yum.

I love to use caramelized onions for a sandwich add in. They add so much flavor and amazing richness not to mention a gourmet touch. I don’t always have time to caramelize my own onions so I realy enjoy a caramelized onion spread that Harry & David make.

Your post on ‘ants on a log’ cracked me up because I have been making these for a snack this week and was thinking about ‘lady bugs on a log’ for the cranberries since I am not a raisin fan.

WARNING THIS IS TOTALLY SIMPLE, BUT OH SO– DIVINE. (ahhhhhhahahahahaha… ***Crickets chirping in the distance***)

When I was little my Mom used to make this sandwhich for me ALL THE TIME— Even for BREAKFAST! It’s SO nastalgic for me and it is unbelievably satisfying and delicious on every level! YOU MUST TRY IT! The key is toasting the entire sandwhich, but you start out with two slices of Cinnamon Raisin Bread (The Sandwich kind… Ezekiel works GREAT) and on that bread you add light or rf Mayo (she used to use full-fat, but we don’t use it anymore, lol), a few slices of turkey (NOT FOLDED! You want to lightly kind of, “collapse” them on top of each other, not fold them over like a taco, if that makes sense!?) and mayo on the other side, as well. Then you spread a teeny, tiny bit of smart balance light or smart balance spray on the outsides of the sandwich bread to bring out its buttery-sweetness and then toast it up. The Mayo gets a little Melty, the turkey gets warm and crispy (KIND OF) along the edges and the bread becomes juicy from the raisins and sweet/buttery from the cinnamon and smart balance light. OH TINA TINA TINA. You have GOT TO TRY THIS! It truly is the most SATISFYING sandwich ever. You won’t even WANT anything else after this OR WITH THIS to distract you. It’s pure bliss. :)

Gardenburger veggie burger- with buffalo sauce, blue cheese crumbles, goat cheese, jalapeno peppers, mustard, pickles, tomato, arugula and top it all off with some home made refried beans ( take beans, mash and fry in a pan wtih EVOO and a tb each of lite bbq sauce and franks red hot!). Thrown all of this concoction into a whole wheat pita, spray with pam and thrown this baby on the cuisinary griddler…pure delight!

    2. Runner Up- turkey sausage grilled! with some sauteed red peppers, eggplant and thick sliced onions, add some freshly grated parmigano to it, and throw it all onto some whole wheat baguette, wtih some fresh basil leaves. Grill on the griddler with some EVOO. Enjoy!

my strangest condiment for a sandwich would certainly be adding grilled pineapple to my turkey panini..tastes great though!

-Thin layer of black beans (sans black bean juice)
-A few slices of thinly sliced smoked deli turkey
-Top with tomato salsa of choice
-Microwave for a few seconds for overall warmth

    1. Turkey, bacon, guacamole (with your regular lettuce, onion, pickles, etc).
    2. Turkey, brie, grilled apple, cranberry mayo (I had this at a restaurnat years ago, and I still think it was fantabulous!)
    3. Thanksgiving classic – turkey, stuffing, gravy
    4. Grilled cheese with red pepper jelly!

My favorite sandwich is a grilled chicken pesto panini. I take two pieces of any kind of bread, focacia being my favorite, put pesto on both sides, with a piece of grilled chicken, and swiss cheese. Then I put it in my George Forman Grill and cook it until the bread is slightly crispy. YUM!

Oh fun contest! One of my favorite sandwiches to have for lunch is cucumber with cream cheese. My mom, sisters, and I used to host tea parties when I was younger, and one of the things we would always serve was mini cuc sandwiches. My sisters and I always thought it was a great treat to get a “real-sized” cuc sandwich for lunch!

I love sandwiches! My favorite is a grilled caprese sandwich. Take good italian bread, spritz one side with olive oil. Add fresh tomatoes, fresh mozzarella cheese and either pesto or fresh basil. I LOVE pesto because it make the whole sandwich a little moister. Then spritz the other piece of bread with olive oil on one side and grill it up!

There’s just nothing better than fresh deli-sliced smoked turkey (thinly sliced) with grey poupon mustard, sprouts, heirloom tomatoes, lots-o-spinach, pickles, jalapeno’s, red onion, avocado and raisins to add a pinch of sweetness. I actually haven’t tried Arnold’s Bread yet, but you’ve got me hooked on Ezekiel bread, so I’m sure Arnold’s bread is delish too! If you want to know a really weird combo… my parents eat mayo and banana sandwiches… it must be a southern thing :)

My very favorite sandwich is smoked mozzarella, sliced avocado and a spoonful of Trader Joe’s Bruschetta sauce on some nice grainy bread. The first time I made it, I was trying to use up an avocado. Since then, I’ve bought avocados strictly for this purpose. The bruschetta sauce from Trader Joe’s is great in these sandwiches, in omelets, and on top of naan or pita with some mozzarella when I’m in the mood for pizza.

I keep hearing wonderfully amazingly fanTABulously spectacular things about this bread and I’m thinking I NEED to track it down somewhere and try it! I’ve somewhat strayed away from bread since trying to stay on a strict healthy diet (and most breads are not-so-good for the body!)..but THIS stuff looks almost too good to be true!! :)

For the first time in FOREVER, I decided to make a new sandwich the other day! This was my creatively weird but still sooo good concoction:
Two slices of bread, each side slathered with organic pizza sauce, layered with Boar’s Head honey-maple turkey breast, and a heaping spoonfull of BLACK BEANS (double yum!).
Then I made the sandwich on the stove, like a grilled cheese! It came out all gooey from the pizza sauce and chewy from the beans. So good, so yummy, so FILLING…so perfect!!

2 slices of whole wheat bread, toasted
Leek confit (from this recipe, amount of butter reduced): http://www.bonappetit.com/magazine/2008/10/leek_confit
Roasted red bell peppers (roasted myself, not from a jar)
Super firm tofu marinated in a little olive oil, white balsamic, crushed garlic, salt, pepper, oregano and basil (dried), then grilled on my grill pan.

One of my favorite things to eat with bread is the last bite of a hot dog – a Fenway Frank to be specific. Sure the first bite is good and so are the other bites, but there’s nothing better than when you’re almost done, the ratio of bread:hot dog is about 2:1, and there’s that last drop of ketchup that acts as the icing on the cake. Except, you’re not eating a cake…well you know what I mean.
