on Oct 29th, 2008 at 8:02 am
I love roasted red peppers on a sandwich. Its something I don’t do often(I always forget to buy them!) but it can make even the most boring “normal” sandwich into something special!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 8:04 am
Sharp chedder can make any sandwich fantastic, or just by itself for a cheese sandwich!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 8:07 am
YAY! CONTEST! WHOO HOO!
I think everything makes a yummy sanwich so it’s hard for me to pinpoint just one ingredient, so my ideal sandwich would have to be:
-2 slices of Arnold Multi-Grain Bread (I have recently fell in love with this bread)
- 1 slice of Kraft American Cheese
- a mixture of mayo and Frank’s Red Hot Hot Sauce (this stuff is the bomb)
-lettuce
-Boar’s Head Buffalo Chicken Deli Meat
YUMMMM!

I love tomato sandwiches in the summer. Of course, the centerpiece is a fabulous home grown (or farmer’s market) tomato! Add good bread and just a bit of light mayo and its heavenly!
I also like tuna and a bit of pickle relish – a lighter alternative to tuna salad!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 8:17 am
My favorite sandwich is buffalo chicken, lettuce, onions, and pickles. Yum.
My second favorite that I only eat like once a year is peanut butter and turkey bacon. Weird but so good!

Nothing beats a simple peanut butter and banana! Fast, filling and comforting!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 8:18 am
How exciting, I just picked up the double fiber bread this weekend. Love it. I recently discovered spicy mustard on sandwiches.
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 8:18 am
Thanks for the contest Arnold’s and Tina!
I went to Australia in April and found a new love – sweet chili sauce! I was overjoyed to find it in my grocery stores. It was a perfect compliment to any sandwich, especially adding a kick to Amy’s Texas burgers. Yum!!!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 8:19 am
Sandwiches are my FAVORITE food because they’re so versatile (kind of like jeans)! My favorite combo around this time of year is turkey, parrano cheese, honey mustard, cranberry sauce, spinach and sauteed onions. BUT my all-time favorite sandwich is bacon and peanut butter. Oh my gosh, I love contests! Ok, so I recently tried a sandwich with grilled tofu (marinated in spicy garlic sauce) with lettuce…and I debated over a condiment (mustard, mayo, red pepper hummus?). I finally decided on fat free sour cream, which seemed weird at the time but I went for it. The flavors were perfect together!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 8:37 am
I love these contests you and Kath are doing, such a good idea! Anyway, I just discovered this amazing sandwich at Cafe Ula in Jamaica Plains and it is my new definition of the perfect sandwich! It is a roasted Sweet Potato sandwich with avacado, Monterey Jack cheese, tomato, red onion, sprouts, tanini poppy seed spread, all on semolina bread from high rise bakery. I highly recommend this cafe, they have amazing sandwiches and a really nice atmosphere. It is located in the old brewery building which I’m told is a new hip place for new vendors in the JP area.
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 8:40 am

on Oct 29th, 2008 at 9:02 am
I have to admit… my pb sandwich is more like bread ON peanut butter instead of peanut butter on bread. Break up the bread and put pb on each piece. That’s MY kind of sandwich.
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 9:04 am
I love adding avocado to my sandwiches, it’s a nice healthy, creamy substitute for mayo!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 9:04 am

on Oct 29th, 2008 at 9:07 am
While I do love a good sandwich, I usually only eat my own creations when on the run. I think if I had a panini press it would make my sandwiches more appealing and fun!
Love your blog, Tina!

on Oct 29th, 2008 at 9:11 am
My sandwiches are more like “dessert-wiches” in that I love to have dark chocolate peanut butter with a touch of marshmallow fluff!! OR sometimes I like reg pb with semi-sweet chocolate chips- yumm! As for savory sammies- well give me some light deli ham, a laughing cow that I mix with lots of cumin and a touch of hot sauce, and then put it together with some spinach, sauteed peppers and onions, and a little sauteed cabbage (in spices of course)- its sort of a twist on a cuban…Ill even add pineapple sometimes! YUM!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 9:11 am
I packed a PB&J today on Arnold sandiwch thins. Funny thing is it looked TOO thin, so i stuck some banana in there too!
My aunt used to eat white wonderbread and ketchup sandwiches. Ewww!

on Oct 29th, 2008 at 9:17 am
Yay contest! So I’d say since it’s getting cold outside, there’s nothing better than a turkey reuben: sauerkraut, swiss cheese, light thousand island dressing, and deli smoked turkey breast. I load up on the sauerkraut, and use ICBINB spray and throw it on the skillet. A healthier version of a great classic!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 9:18 am
My favorite sandwich is hummus, havarti cheese, and spinach with the bread lightly toasted.

I love an open-faced sandwich on honey whole wheat sandwich bread with soy swiss cheese, thin slices of pear (just enough to cover the sandwich) and sprinkled lightly with cinnamon, baked at 375 in the oven on a cookie sheet for about 4 minutes…this is also really good on a pita.
My other favorite is real basil, honey dijon mustard, soy swiss cheese, and tomato slices, grilled on heavy whole wheat bread.
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 9:23 am
it’s not a condiment but i looovee adding crunchy pickles to my sandwich, oh and it always has to be toasted!

A fall favorite is turkey, cheddar, and sliced apples. The new breads sound great!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 9:41 am
Since discovering I’m allergic to peanut butter and various tree nuts last year, I finally found an alternative- sunbutter! It’s made from sunflower seeds and tastes almost like peanut butter. There’s nothing like it with some strawberry preserves. Yum.
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 9:41 am
I love mesquite turkey, slice of provolone, spicy brown mustard, and some thin fiji apple slices! The combination of flavors, along with the crunchiness from the apple, compliments almost any type of grain bread!

favorite sandwich? either grilled cheese, tomato and spinach OR mozzerella, basil and tomato really thick bread.
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 9:43 am
I love to use caramelized onions for a sandwich add in. They add so much flavor and amazing richness not to mention a gourmet touch. I don’t always have time to caramelize my own onions so I realy enjoy a caramelized onion spread that Harry & David make.
Your post on ‘ants on a log’ cracked me up because I have been making these for a snack this week and was thinking about ‘lady bugs on a log’ for the cranberries since I am not a raisin fan.
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 9:44 am
WARNING THIS IS TOTALLY SIMPLE, BUT OH SO– DIVINE. (ahhhhhhahahahahaha… ***Crickets chirping in the distance***)
When I was little my Mom used to make this sandwhich for me ALL THE TIME— Even for BREAKFAST! It’s SO nastalgic for me and it is unbelievably satisfying and delicious on every level! YOU MUST TRY IT! The key is toasting the entire sandwhich, but you start out with two slices of Cinnamon Raisin Bread (The Sandwich kind… Ezekiel works GREAT) and on that bread you add light or rf Mayo (she used to use full-fat, but we don’t use it anymore, lol), a few slices of turkey (NOT FOLDED! You want to lightly kind of, “collapse” them on top of each other, not fold them over like a taco, if that makes sense!?) and mayo on the other side, as well. Then you spread a teeny, tiny bit of smart balance light or smart balance spray on the outsides of the sandwich bread to bring out its buttery-sweetness and then toast it up. The Mayo gets a little Melty, the turkey gets warm and crispy (KIND OF) along the edges and the bread becomes juicy from the raisins and sweet/buttery from the cinnamon and smart balance light. OH TINA TINA TINA. You have GOT TO TRY THIS! It truly is the most SATISFYING sandwich ever. You won’t even WANT anything else after this OR WITH THIS to distract you. It’s pure bliss.
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 9:44 am
I love toasted sammys…..but I think my favorite is mozzarella with roasted turkey and roasted peppers and hummus!

on Oct 29th, 2008 at 9:45 am
The BEST EVER sandwich is by far the good ole’ fashioned peanut butter and jelly – with Teddie’s All Natural Super Chunky PB and homemade stawberry preserves for jelly all on my family’s recipe for homemade wheat bread – toasted. Absolutely nothing can touch it.
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 9:46 am

Hi Tina! This is my first time commenting….I guess it’s as good a time as any to start! My favorite sandwich is from the deli in Whole Foods. They have pesto mayo that is sooo yummy. I only get it on one side of the sandwich to cut some calories. Add in some cheese, tomatos, cucumbers, sprouts, and you don’t even need meat! It’s very flavorful. =)

on Oct 29th, 2008 at 10:15 am
woohoo! my all-time favorite is probably melted cheddar and granny-smith apples on cinnamon raisin toast. sounds weird, but it’s amazing, i swear!

Ham, prov, spinach, yellow mustard, salt and pepper on wheat. Very simple and delicious!

Apple walnut tuna salad is simply AMAZING!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 10:18 am
It would be a toss up for me. I love both PB&J and grilled cheese equally. I personally think I make the world’s best of both, but I may be biased.
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 10:18 am
I’d have to say just good old fashioned peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread… with the PB layered about an inch thick!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 10:19 am
what an exciting contest! I’ve been dying to try these breads ever since they started appearing on everyone’s blogs, but they’re not available on the west coast.
Turkey, lettuce (or spinach) roasted garlic hummus, honey mustard, JALAPENO pepper cheese, grilled on a panini maker. yum!

morocan spice mix, roasted red peppers and cheese on a grilled sandwich…mmmmmmm
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 10:24 am
Ahh I would love to win this bread to help with my college grocery budget for a few weeks!
When I studied abroad in the Netherlands…I tried two of these amazing combos:
open faced whole grain bread spread with goat cheese, honey, a few walnut pieces, spinach, roasted red pepper…soo good!
two slices bread toasted with nutella spread on top and chocolate sprinkles (dutch call hagelslag and they are found on most tables at hotels for bfast, etc)…so decadent and a dessert sandwich (open faced is great!)

on Oct 29th, 2008 at 10:27 am

I make my OWN honey mustard. It’s simple really…just mix honey and mustard. GREAT on chicken sandwiches. Lots of lettuce and Swiss cheese is a must…mmmm….Don’t forget the Arnold Bread…love the fiber one

on Oct 29th, 2008 at 10:30 am
On my savory sandwiches I need tons and tons of mustard!!! I love whole grained breads (with some dried cranberries or some other chewy dried fruit is a great addition) with turkey, sliced granny smith apples, swiss cheese, spinach & alfalfa and some cranberry sauce :]
With sweet sandwiches, my favorite would have to be TOASTED raspberry bagel (OR anything whole grained and chewy with lots of texture – def toasted) with thick slabs of pb & strawberry jelly!!! A slightly savory bread with the pb&j is SUCH a good combo.
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 10:30 am
My Favorite is grilled cheese (provolone) with homeade pickled eggplant and hot peppers on it. Coming in second would be the “Day after Thanksgiving Sandwich” which has just about every leftover including mashed potatoes and stuffing on it! YUM!

I’m a firm believer that a good sandwich can bring people together, and two good sandwiches – well, the opportunities are endless.
That’s why my co-workers and I have started sand-switching. It’s when you go halfsies on two delicious sandwiches and get the best of both bready worlds. Some of our favorite combos:
– The Jessica Simpson: 1/2 tuna salad, 1/2 chicken salad
– Mo Parm, Mo Fowl: 1/2 eggplant parm, 1/2 chicken parm
– Sandwich Surf ‘n Turf: 1/2 tuna, 1/2 meatball
– The Rocky Ball-Boa: 1/2 spicy italian, 1/2 meatball

One sandwich combination I had, and loved, was called a “Green Gobbler”–turkey, sprouts, cheese, green apple slices, and apple butter on a brioche roll. The sweet and savory mix was awesome! Something I would’ve never thought to put together!

on Oct 29th, 2008 at 11:14 am
My husband and I LOVE to make egg sandwiches on whole grain bread. Usually his is scrambled eggs, cheese and hot sauce with a little butter and mine is egg whites with veggies, feta and ketchup. MMM. I probably could eat that all three meals!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 11:18 am
cheese. definitely cheese. No sammie is complete without some cheesy goodness. Apple slices are also pretty yummy too – it adds great texture and a nice, cool, refreshing crunch. But most important is getting fresh, delicious bread.

my favorite sandwiches are still the ones that my parents would make for me as a kid. that includes grilled cheese, peanut butter and jam, and the alligator sandwich. i get a lot of strange looks for this one- it’s peanut butter and dill pickles! it’s good though, if you dare to try it :]

on Oct 29th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
i love your site! my daily routine starts with your blog and a coffee…
my fav sandwich combos!
1. Gardenburger veggie burger- with buffalo sauce, blue cheese crumbles, goat cheese, jalapeno peppers, mustard, pickles, tomato, arugula and top it all off with some home made refried beans ( take beans, mash and fry in a pan wtih EVOO and a tb each of lite bbq sauce and franks red hot!). Thrown all of this concoction into a whole wheat pita, spray with pam and thrown this baby on the cuisinary griddler…pure delight!
2. Runner Up- turkey sausage grilled! with some sauteed red peppers, eggplant and thick sliced onions, add some freshly grated parmigano to it, and throw it all onto some whole wheat baguette, wtih some fresh basil leaves. Grill on the griddler with some EVOO. Enjoy!
my strangest condiment for a sandwich would certainly be adding grilled pineapple to my turkey panini..tastes great though!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
I don’t have a panini maker, but I use my Foreman to make paninis
I also have recently fell in love with hummus as my spread.
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
-Toast bread for stability
-Thin layer of black beans (sans black bean juice)
-A few slices of thinly sliced smoked deli turkey
-Top with tomato salsa of choice
-Microwave for a few seconds for overall warmth
voila!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
I love turkey, lettuce, and cheese simple but so delish!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Hi Tina!
I’ve recently started eating egg, mashed avocado, and Frank’s Red Hot (the only hot sauce worth eating) on a toasted pita for a filling, energizing breakfast that takes me way past lunch time!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
I loooove sandwiches! My favorite is with a hearty bread, natural peanut butter, and all-fruit jelly or banana slices. I also love “grown up” grilled cheese with real cheese (not nasty Kraft slices) and mustard, onion, and tomato. I guess I am just a kid at heart!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
Hmmm…I can’t say I have a favourit sandwich, but here are some of the top ones:
1. Turkey, bacon, guacamole (with your regular lettuce, onion, pickles, etc).
2. Turkey, brie, grilled apple, cranberry mayo (I had this at a restaurnat years ago, and I still think it was fantabulous!)
3. Thanksgiving classic – turkey, stuffing, gravy
4. Grilled cheese with red pepper jelly!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
I put honey mustard on everything! It tastes good on any kind of sandwich! Especially hot ones! YUM!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
I have two favorite sandwiches. The first one takes some prep work, grilled eggplant, onion (caramelize the onion and then add red wine and reduce), and brie. The easy sandwich is cheddar or monterey jack cheese, apple, and pickled jalapenos.
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
My favorite sandwich is a grilled chicken pesto panini. I take two pieces of any kind of bread, focacia being my favorite, put pesto on both sides, with a piece of grilled chicken, and swiss cheese. Then I put it in my George Forman Grill and cook it until the bread is slightly crispy. YUM!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 12:56 pm
Oh fun contest! One of my favorite sandwiches to have for lunch is cucumber with cream cheese. My mom, sisters, and I used to host tea parties when I was younger, and one of the things we would always serve was mini cuc sandwiches. My sisters and I always thought it was a great treat to get a “real-sized” cuc sandwich for lunch!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
I love sandwiches! My favorite is a grilled caprese sandwich. Take good italian bread, spritz one side with olive oil. Add fresh tomatoes, fresh mozzarella cheese and either pesto or fresh basil. I LOVE pesto because it make the whole sandwich a little moister. Then spritz the other piece of bread with olive oil on one side and grill it up!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
There’s just nothing better than fresh deli-sliced smoked turkey (thinly sliced) with grey poupon mustard, sprouts, heirloom tomatoes, lots-o-spinach, pickles, jalapeno’s, red onion, avocado and raisins to add a pinch of sweetness. I actually haven’t tried Arnold’s Bread yet, but you’ve got me hooked on Ezekiel bread, so I’m sure Arnold’s bread is delish too! If you want to know a really weird combo… my parents eat mayo and banana sandwiches… it must be a southern thing
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
Oooh yay! I just had a turkey, hummus, cucumber, red pepper, and lettuce wrap for lunch…yum
And I’ve seen this Arnold bread all over and would love to try it!

I adore sliced apples on a turkey sandwich. A little swiss cheese, spinach…I’m getting hungry!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
My very favorite sandwich is smoked mozzarella, sliced avocado and a spoonful of Trader Joe’s Bruschetta sauce on some nice grainy bread. The first time I made it, I was trying to use up an avocado. Since then, I’ve bought avocados strictly for this purpose. The bruschetta sauce from Trader Joe’s is great in these sandwiches, in omelets, and on top of naan or pita with some mozzarella when I’m in the mood for pizza.
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
Grilled zucchini, red peppers, and portobella mushroom with hummus on toasted bread….yummmm. Oh, and falafel patties with sprouts, hummus, lettuce, and roasted red peppers. Oh, and cranberry apple butter (new from Trader Joe’s! Try it!) on toasted bread. I love the double fiber bread!

Oh and anything with honey dijon… I think I can eat that stuff with a spoon. Yum!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
I keep hearing wonderfully amazingly fanTABulously spectacular things about this bread and I’m thinking I NEED to track it down somewhere and try it! I’ve somewhat strayed away from bread since trying to stay on a strict healthy diet (and most breads are not-so-good for the body!)..but THIS stuff looks almost too good to be true!!
For the first time in FOREVER, I decided to make a new sandwich the other day! This was my creatively weird but still sooo good concoction:
Two slices of bread, each side slathered with organic pizza sauce, layered with Boar’s Head honey-maple turkey breast, and a heaping spoonfull of BLACK BEANS (double yum!).
Then I made the sandwich on the stove, like a grilled cheese! It came out all gooey from the pizza sauce and chewy from the beans. So good, so yummy, so FILLING…so perfect!!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
I am all about adding the sandwich slice pickles to my sanwiches. Favorite combo would have to be Boars Head turkey breast, munster cheese, pickles, and hummus on toasted wheat. YUM
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 1:45 pm
I would love a free sample!!!!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 1:45 pm

Leek confit (from this recipe, amount of butter reduced): http://www.bonappetit.com/magazine/2008/10/leek_confit
Roasted red bell peppers (roasted myself, not from a jar)
Super firm tofu marinated in a little olive oil, white balsamic, crushed garlic, salt, pepper, oregano and basil (dried), then grilled on my grill pan.
It was so delicious! I haven’t enjoyed a meal that much in ages!

So I can’t limit it to one…
1. (grilled) honey pepper turkey or grilled chicken, brie, granny smith apple, jalapeno jelly
2. peanut butter (or barney butter!!), banana, nutella, honey, crushed toasted hazlenuts
3. (grilled) bartlett pear, white sharp cheddar, turkey bacon or morningstar farms bacon (so crispy)!

hummus spread on top
spinach leaves

craisins sprinkled on top and a drizzle of agave nectar
Tastes like Thanksgiving!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
One of my favorite things to eat with bread is the last bite of a hot dog – a Fenway Frank to be specific. Sure the first bite is good and so are the other bites, but there’s nothing better than when you’re almost done, the ratio of bread:hot dog is about 2:1, and there’s that last drop of ketchup that acts as the icing on the cake. Except, you’re not eating a cake…well you know what I mean.
It’s fantastic.
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
Sundried tomato pesto, chicken and mozzarella. YUM.

on Oct 29th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
Arnold bread + roasted red pepper hummus + spinach + slices of juicy red tomatoes + sliced roasted turkey breast = heaven. (also very hard to fit it all in your mouth in one bite!)
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
Try sliced hard boiled eggs with a piece of nori seaweed… it is AMAZING! If you have veggie protein curls around, sprinkle some of that as well!
on Oct 29th, 2008 at 4:38 pm
I love sandwiches and I always make them in my sandwich grill maker w/ garlic powder and rosemary on sprinkled on the bread, the inside always changes and I like a lot of variety, but avocado and pesto are two of my favorite condiments to add; roasted red pepper, fresh mozzarella, goat cheese, and banana peppers too! The bread makes such a difference, would love to try the new flavors…yummm!!!!

Perfect timing…I just tried out and LOVED a new sandwich today…chicken salad!
Diced chicken, mixed with onion, celery, APPLES, CRAISINS, and greek yogurt with just a touch of light mayo…add in a touch of salt and pepper, and you’re ready to go!!
This would be DELICIOUS on any one of those new breads…my mouth is already watering!!! PICK ME, PICK ME!!
