Oatmeal + Waffles
Good morning! So, I loved the Sex and the City movie! There were so many cute parts, and I loved seeing what the SATC ladies were up to a few years later. I laughed, I cried, I got angry… it was an emotional rollercoaster at times. Mal watched the movie with me. He mostly rolled his eyes and questioned almost every fashion choice (guys just don’t get it!
), but he laughed at quite a few parts too. I think he actually kind of liked the movie! There were definitely some cheesy parts that I didn’t care for, but overall, I really enjoyed it… and, of course, my night off!
Breakfast
I tried something new for breakfast this morning. Like always, I was in the mood for oatmeal, but I felt like I needed to switch-up breakfast. I got a little crazy and topped a couple of Vans waffles with oatmeal. It sounds kind of strange, but it wasn’t at all. After my first bite of this breakfast experiment, the combo totally made sense to me. I’m surprised I hadn’t thought of it sooner!
My Measurements:
- 2 Vans waffles
- 1/4 cup (dry) oats
- 1 tsp ground flaxseed meal
- 1 medium/small banana
- 1/2 tbsp peanut butter
- Squirt of maple syrup
How to:
- Toast waffles
- Combine dry oats with ground flaxseed meal and prepare oatmeal
- Top waffles with peanut butter and/or maple syrup (optional)
- Spread oatmeal evenly on top of waffles/peanut butter/maple syrup
- Top oatmeal with sliced bananas
- Enjoy!!!
Breakfast was super-duper filling today… and really, really delicious! It was the best of both breakfast worlds!

At work, I made myself a mug of Italian roast with agave nectar and soy milk. (Anyone else excited to carve pumpkins in a couple of weeks!?!
)
Web Design
Obviously, you guys have noticed my new blog design. (I hope you like it!!!) I came up with the idea for the new layout and design myself, but none of it would have been possible without the skills and expertise my friend, Blain. (He’s the man!)
Blain runs his own website business, called 13 Infinite, which offers simple, effective, and professional websites that fit just about anyone’s needs. Blain has experience designing a range of websites, each with its own individual style and requirements.
The best part about my blog redesign experience was working with Blain himself. Of course, he’s my friend, so we get along well to begin with, but working with him was a piece of cake. Blain was professional and organized, never letting a single detail slip by him; he was also receptive (and patient) to my ever-changing ideas. In addition, Blain had the foresight to add (or not add) certain features and options to my website– things I never even considered. And he explains the whole process in “non-technical” terms– even I could understand it!
I really could go on and on about how amazing Blain is to work with, but if you are thinking about redesigning your own blog, you should definitely contact him. Feel free to contact me if you have specific questions about Blain or his web business.
Question of the Day
If you had a free day all to yourself, what would you do? (Money is no issue!
)
Me: All I know is that my free day to myself would involve a sweaty workout, a massage, and good food!

Great breakfast idea!
If I had a free day, money no issue, I would fly to France in the middle of the night to land in the a.m. Walk the streets and treat myself to a nice morning pastry and cafe au lait. Just walk around some more, sampling all the different foods the city has to offer. Ending the day with a nice glass of wine. Of course, I’d want to share the day with my husband, so I guess I wouldn’t want to do this by myself.

Your website is turning into one big commercial.

Oatmeal on waffles! YUM!
I am planning on getting some craft pumpkins to carve so that I can save them through the years!

f,
I’m sorry you feel that way. My purpose was to let people know about my friend’s business as another way to thank him for all of his hard work.

I think that first commenter has the right idea…it would definitely involve chartering a private jet, but since I only have 1 day I think going to europe would take too long…SO…maybe San Fran since theres so many amazing restaurants there! I shop til I dropped, and have amazing food all day.
Also I think it’s great that your giving your friends company good reviews! Thats how companies get business…word of mouth!

Shawna and Bridget W.,
You guys have the right idea!!! I’d go to Napa for the day and visit the vineyards. Wouldn’t that be nice!

I think I would do a spa day and get a massage, manicure, pedicure, and lounge around with a good book. I used to work at a spa during my summers in college and they had a big pool and gym and steam rooms the works. Something like that would be nice

I love your new site design! I like that the picture changes almost daily
Where do you buy your agave nectar? I’m using splenda now, but would like to find something more natural!
on Oct 2nd, 2008 at 11:09 am
a day off – money no object? spend the day at a spa getting the works…massage, facial, mani/pedi, hair cut – everything. oh and end with an amazing dinner somewhere new!
on Oct 2nd, 2008 at 11:19 am
I would fly to Cali, spent a lot of time shopping and eating…I’d buy gifts for everyone I know!
on Oct 2nd, 2008 at 11:21 am
Spa Day! Hard, sweaty workout in the morning followed by yoga followed by loads of pampering spa treatments. Then, some shopping (money’s no object, so I’d have to SPEND!) and dinner and wine somewhere wonderful!

You’re oatmeal on a waffle breakfast idea sounds great! If I had a day off – money no object, I agree with some of the others and I’d do a spa day too. I’d go to one of those crazy expensive, celebrity spas in LA/Beverly Hills. Give me the works! With a fancy-smancy dinner afterwards.

LOVE the new layout. especially how the top banner changes from carrots to weights to carrot cupcakes!!! so cute and keeps it interesting
it’s very user friendly too (compared to some other blogs).
if i had a day off i would definitely do the spa-thing. i’ve never been to a spa so i’d love to get a full massage/facial/mani/pedi. also i would go back to ireland where i studied abroad this summer with my family
i agree with your comments on SATC the movie. i am a HUGE HUGE SATC tv show fan (i quote the girls non stop and have every episode memorized haha) but the movie did have extra cliche/cheesy moments. overall it was great to get in another dose of their lives after several yrs since the finale.

I also love the new layout especially the header. It looks very clean and crisp and food friendly.
How cute is your little October calendar?! Did you make that?
on Oct 2nd, 2008 at 11:51 am
Oh! And I forgot to mention, I love the waffle + oatmeal idea, I will for sure try that out!

I finally got to see the movie on a plane last month. My favorite part was when Charlotte would only eat pudding cups in Mexico. Hilarious!
I’ve been fortunate enough to have a lot of my perfect days. When I travel with my husband we he is on business I get to explore new cities on my own. This is always my perfect day.

What a interesting combination.
If I had a day to myself and money was not an issue I would fly to NYC and shop til I drop.

AlliJag,
I buy my agave nectar at Whole Foods– near the maple syrup. I think TJ’s might sell it too?

Just wondering where you are posting your workouts now? I know you use to put them on the side what you did everyday of the week, but now I can’t find it? I really like the new layout, very creative and fun! =)

I’d make sure the weather was amazing, then do a long, long solo hike… and make it home to relax, kick off my hiking shoes, and share a bottle of wine with the roommates.

Done! I did it I totally ate the baconator…did it slow and steady….I think it was more mentally stressful than anything just knowing what that monster packs is enough to send anyone to the gym an extra hour! It was worth it though 100 smackers to do what I want with hooraay! Anyways I ate pretty much the same thing minus the oatmeal and add strawberries instead….was amazing….waffles are always yummy but I feel guilty eating them through the weekdays for some reason….tis strange. If I had a free day as lame as it sounds Id probably spend it with my honey somewhere outdoorsy and warm its freezing in ohio!

Awesome question. I would fly all of my best friends into my town to get manis/pedis/massages together, than have a big brunch somewhere complete with mimosas/other cocktails. Then I would go dress/stiletto shopping and wear my fabulous new outfit to a romantic dinner with my boyfriend at an Italian restaurant (eating in candlelight outside, of course), followed by a big party with all of our friends not at our house so we could come home early and watch reruns of Gossip Girl and snuggle.

Andrea,
It was a gift from a coworker. Someone she knows made them.
Kirsten,
My weekly schedule is listed under “Fitness” at the top.
Royal,
Congrats!!!! That is awesome! What are you going to buy with your $100??
on Oct 2nd, 2008 at 1:00 pm
It’s October, so its officially autumn and officially boot season! So naturally Im going to buy a new pair of boots! And well since I did have to go through the mental anguish I am going to spend some bucks of my own on a new outfit to go along! YAYAYAYA

Love that oatmeal on waffles idea and definitely with banana. I always put banana on top of waffles or pancakes, it’s as if they just aren’t the same without banana! Never would have thought about oatmeal though.
I don’t know just what I’d do with a free day. I really love my boys, but would love to have the house to myself, the already clean house, and bake or do whatever I want at home that I never get to do with kids around.
Love your blog!
