Larabar Flavor Review
This post is a work-in-progress as I still have many Larabars to sample, which I am very much looking forward to doing!! I love Larabars in a weird way!
As of November 18, 2008, here are my current Larabar rankings. My absolute favorite bar is in position numero uno and the rank goes down from there. I’ll be sure to update my list as I try new flavors. Enjoy!
- Coconut Cream Pie
- THE COCONUT CREAM PIE FLAVOR IS HEAVENLY! It’s like eating a coconut macaroon, but better tasting! It’s easily my favorite Larabar! FYI: This bar has a whopping 7 grams of saturated fat!
- Ginger Snap
- Mmmmmm… this bar is basically a soft, moist ginger snap cookie in bar form. It’s flavor is slightly sweet with ginger spiciness. Love it!
- Lemon Bar
- SO delish! This bar has a very strong and tart, but refreshing lemon flavor, which sort of reminds me of the tangy-ness of a lemon square. I’m a big fan of this one!
- Jocolat Chocolate Hazelnut
- Mmm… this bar is smooth, thick, and chewy with an equal combo of chocolate and hazelnut flavors. It is the perfect snack for your chocolate fix! It’s another favorite!
- Chocolate Coconut Chew
- Holy moly! This bar tastes just like eating a brownie! The chocolate is a bit more subtle than a rich, fudge-y brownie, but the unsweetened cocoa harmonizes well with the coconut and nuts mixed throughout the bar.
- Cherry Pie
- I love the tart cherry flavor of this bar! Each bite is an explosion of soft, chewy cherry in your mouth.
- Key Lime Pie
- The flavor is a mix of tangy lime and sweet coconut, both of which are very strong. The bar has a very light color to it, which is very key lime pie-esque, but different from the usual dark date color of the other Larabar flavors. Bits of white coconut and tiny almond pieces are mixed throughout the bar. Overall, this is a fantastic bar!
- Apple Pie
- This bar is loaded with pieces of almonds and walnuts, and has a sweet apple and cinnamon flavor. It reminds me of homemade apple crisp.
- Cashew Cookie
- The Cashew Cookie bar is slightly sweet and a little buttery. It definitely reminds me of a cashew-flavored cookie, but much more subtle flavor.
- Pecan Pie
- This flavor was a tasty bar (soft and sweet), but the “pecan pie” flavor didn’t stand out.
- Pistachio
- The pistachio flavor was good, but it really didn’t have a strong pistachio flavor like I had hoped.
- Peanut Butter Cookie
- I was really excited to try this flavor, mostly because of my love of peanut butter and cookies, but sadly, it didn’t live up to my expectations. The peanut butter flavor didn’t come through at all.

I loooove larabars. But even better (in my very humble, chocolate-biased opinion) are the Jocalats. Have you tried those? The chocolate-flavored one is aaamazing!

Tina – we have a lot of the same favorites! Though I definitely liked the PB Cookie more
I can’t wait to hear what you think of Cocoa Mole, as it ranks pretty high on my list.

Man. I wish I could find Peanut Butter Cookie and Coconut Cream Pie! The area I live in is a little behind the times, and I can only find the common flavors!!!!

Hi Tina! I’m from Quebec (Canada), and the only flavors of Larabars that I can find are Cherry Pie, Apple pie, and Cashew cookie. You’re so lucky to have all that diversity at Whole Foods! Any idea how I could obtain some Coconut-cream pie somewhere? Thanks, and keep up the good work with your blog; you got me totally addicted !:P

You should try the Banana Cookie one – it’s to die for! Honestly though, I don’t see how you choose favorites. I love pretty much every Lara Bar out there that I’ve tried. The only bad thing about the Coconut Cream is all that saturated fat – almost as much as a steak. Yipes.

I have to agree about the Coconut Cream Pie. I had been buying Cinnamon Roll, Pecan Pie (both highly recommended), and Ginger Snap for a while when I picked up a sample size CCP after a 10K race. I’ve been hooked ever since.

My favorites are definitely the coconut, cherry pie and cashew. YUM! Will have to be on the lookout for the pistachio. Currently in my bag I have banana bread, cherry pie and cashew, but only because the Whole Foods near me doesn’t carry the coconut, just the chocolate coconut, which I don’t care for.

I just had Apple Pie. YUMMY! It taste alot like it. THis is my favorite so far (ive only had two though
)

I’ve tried every single flavor excluding the Hazelnut Jocalat and Cherry Jocalat. I buy three boxes every two months from netrition.com for only 17.95 per box of 16! My favorite one is Coconut Cream Pie and Lemon Bar. My seconds would be Cherry Pie and Peanut Butter Cookie. I don’t think the LaraBar’s taste like their description, but the Peanut Butter Cookie really does taste like a real homemade pb cookie! I love all the flavors though, not a fan of the Jocolat bars though..

The saturated fat in the Coconut Cream Pie comes from the COCONUT. It’s not unhealthy, as numerous studies have shown the saturated fat in coconut does not act the same as other saturated fats.

Wow..
I’ve never tried a Larabar before, but it looks like I have a LOT to try!
on Jan 29th, 2009 at 9:05 pm
Whoa, okay I tried the Apple Pie, Cinnamon Roll, and Cherry Pie! Apple Pie and Cinnamon Roll were amazing, but the Cherry Pie was too tart. Apple Pie seems to have the nicest nutritional profile. Least calories and fat but with the down home apple pie taste!

Have you tried Cinnamon Roll?? That’s my number 1!! And I completely agree with the Peanut Butter-I was so excited, and very disappointed!
Love your blog!

As a race director I am always looking for new products to promote in my races. It benefits my race as well as the product. I put on two races for runners and walkers. These races are July 25th and September 26th. Both races will draw about 150 runners and walkers. Both are nonprofit.

Hi, i’ve tried every single LARABAR .My favs are peanut butter and coconut cream pie (go figure) !!! however, the one it was a big dissapoitment was ginger snap …i hate it !!! it was like eating that thing the dentist uses (endocaine???) . Today i bought the new 2 flavors…seee what happens. Have you tried those already? what do you think?
on Sep 15th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Try the Tropical one, it’s fantastic….one of our favorites so far
on Sep 17th, 2009 at 2:12 pm
I just wanted to say that the saturated fat from coconut is processed by the body different than that of the saturated fat in animals so it is not as bad for you. Hope that makes people feel better about eating the coconut creme pie

Clearly, I need to try the coconut cream pie one
And I wouldn’t feel bad about the saturated fat; it’s from a completely plant-based source which means it raises BOTH HDL and LDL and has no cholesterol itself. Therefore, it’s perfectly fine in a balanced diet
