Ice Cream Tease
I have found a new love in life: JP Lick’s Pumpkin Custard ice cream! Oh yes, you heard right, Pumpkin Custard! These JP Licks people come up with the most amazing flavor ideas! How do they do it!?!!? They are ice cream gods in my eyes!
I had originally visited JP Licks to try their rumored Carrot Cake flavor, but, unfortunately, it is not available until mid-November for the Thanksgiving holiday. (Erika, you are an ice cream tease!
) I was a little bummed about this news, but after having my first taste of the Pumpkin Custard flavor, I was no longer disappointed.
The Pumpkin Custard ice cream basically tastes like you are eating a bite of the best pumpkin pie you have ever tasted with a bite of the best vanilla ice cream you have ever tasted at the exact same time. (It would be fabulous on a piece of warm pumpkin pie!) I savored each and every bite, right down to the last lick. It took me a good 30 minutes to finish the small cup of ice cream. Now, how’s that for enjoying a dessert?!
Man, after posting about the Pumpkin Custard ice cream, lunch seems so boring now!! Today’s lunch was leftovers from a box of Annie’s Organic Cheesy Lasagna Skillet Meal that Mal made last night, snap peas, prunes, and 2 Cocoa Oatmeal Cookies. (The JP Licks ice cream definitely stole the show today!)
Stress and Weight Gain
Sooooo, I jumped on the scale last night for the first time in weeks. I was surprised to see that I have put on a few pounds– nothing major, but I want to make sure that the number doesn’t creep up any higher! I think I’ve become a little too lax with my diet and exercise lately– and the stress in my life isn’t helping either! Grrrrr.
I guess it’s important to check in with yourself every once in awhile to make sure that you are staying on track. A few pounds isn’t the end of the world… I might just need to lay off the JP Licks!

I was going to ask you if you were walking on Huntington Ave. around Brigham Circle today! I thought I saw you when I was walking along
I must try the pumpkin custard!

Yum! I used to work at a TCBY in college and we had pumpkin yogurt for oct/nov only. It was awesome! They must still have it now.

I went to JP Licks last night to get the pumpkin ice cream for dessert. It was amazing!

I’m so jealous! That looks delicous, beyond delicious actually. At my school (Penn State), we have a famous creamery that has Pumpkin Pie ice cream, and I bet its similar to this. It has pie crust pieces and all! Soo good.
Don’t stress over a small weight shift. You are an active, healthy role model to me. I guess just try some more stress relieving exercise like yoga or pilates and focus more on your food choices. Also, don’t forget, you went on some trips in the past few weeks, so you may have been eating more than normal. NO worries!

I am quite envious of the JP Licks! Wowsa! We have nothing like that here…Im sure I could find pumpkin flavored ice cream but it looks soo creamy! Tina dont forget youre working at the fitness center Im sure when you are there you are increasing little work outs here and there perhaps its muscle weight gain!

Yummy ice cream! I found BOYSENBERRY sugar free froyo at my local froyo place the other week and it was amazing. You should try that flavor if you ever get a chance… I know Dannon used to have it in their fruit on the bottom yogurt flavors, but I haven’t seen it in a while…
Don’t worry about the stress! You’ll get through it
on Oct 15th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
don’t worry too much Tina, it’s just because the weather that it is getting old. I’m sure you’ll go back to your healthy diet soon!

I put on a few pounds, too, after my August wedding. I think the stress before it caused me to lose a bit, and I’ve eased up on eating since then (and started snacking more!). As long as you’re aware and can adjust a bit, you’ll be fine!

I wouldn’t stress the weight gain thing. From what it sounds like from your blog, your new job is giving you lots of weight lifting experience and activity. I bet your weight gain is all muscle mass! I discovered the magic of JP Licks a few months ago and they are brilliant! I tried the pumpkin custard and wasn’t to thrilled but I adore their oatmeal cookie hard frozen yogurt (it tastes like ice cream but it’s not!).

gasp* I SO need to go JP Licks now to try some :] Hehehe now you’ve got me craving ice cream!!!! & don’t worry about the weight gain, it could just be water weight, muscle gain, you know how weight can fluctuate all crazy like on a daily basis – as long as you’re feeling good and liking the way you look!!! :]

First of all, the ice cream looks amazing and I’m pretty sure I’m going to need to try some this weekend when I’m walking around the city (better not rain!).
Also – do you think the weight gaine is attributed at all to muscle gain? You do a lot more weight training classes than you had been… maybe it’s all the Body Pumping!!
on Oct 15th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
OMG that ice cream looks sooo yummy… Good thing there isn’t a JP Licks around here coz I would be all over that!
on Oct 15th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
aw, gee, stop it you all! thanks for your rave reviews of some of my fave flavors, too. here’s a little “recipe secret” from JP LiXland… the special background flavor in the pumpkin custard is molasses(i love all things molasses-y, brown sugar-y, and black licorice-y).
be sure to try our new “Yogurt X” it’s really DIRTY (it’s loaded with millions of pro-biotic bacteria)and TART. it was the original yogurt that I served in 1988 but people HATED it because????it was tart! now, people love it.
toodles,
V

Hello!
I was wondering how that Kashi roll bar was that you ate yesterday? Have you had any of the others? I’m debating if I should buy them.
Thanks!
on Oct 15th, 2008 at 5:50 pm
We don’t have a JP over here but we do have a Golden Spoon and pumpkin just arrived I think!
on Oct 15th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
Tinaaaaaaa! I’m stressed tooooooooo. Thanks for your cheerful attitude though- you’re happy spirit gives me a kick in the pants! After this weekend hopefully I can relax for a few days (big competition Fri-Sun!). Well, at least I’ll have Monday off of skating!
The ice cream looks fab. I’ve never had pumpkin flavored…but your right…carrot cake would be phenomenol! Did I ever tell you that carrot cake was always my after-competition celebratory dessert? Particularly carrot cake by Whole Foods Bakery. My bro used to work at WF so he would get his baking friends to decorate it all nice and cute for our fam for free.
Anywayssssssssssss… happy Wednesday Mama Blogger (after all- you did guide me through getting Gliding Calm started- which I will forever be grateful for!)! Just a couple more days til the weekend, right? Yay!

That ice cream might be worth the 1 hr. drive north! It looks fabulous.
I feel like I am the very same way lately – up a few strees/junk related pounds. I am trying to lay off sweets for awhile. Although, I am making you zucchini cookies now, so I guess that’s not gonna work.
on Oct 15th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
awww i wouldn’t stress on the weight gain thing. as long as your clothes still fit and you can manage the same workouts i think you’re fine!!
once again – i LOVEEEEE jp licks! so awesome that they have pumpkin custard icecream. i dont think you or anyone should give that up
you did well too with jsut getting a small cup… i usually buy a huge waffle cone!
on Oct 15th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
Mmmm I will have to try that next time I am at JP Licks. Was it a yogurt or ice cream flavor? I also appreciate your honesty about the weight thing. I’m struggling with it too so it’s nice to know that others are facing it as well.
on Oct 15th, 2008 at 6:11 pm
Argh…that came out wrong. Please don’t take that as meaning “I’m happy you gained weight.” My intention was to say that sometimes in reading health blogs it can feel like people are perfect and above having to deal with issues like weight gain or missed workouts but it’s nice to know that people can have ups and downs and still be healthy and fit overall. Besides, as others have said you look fabulous so I wouldn’t stress as long as you’re clothes still fit.

You’re not the only one who was disappointed!! I went on Tuesday expecting CARROT CAKE, and I swear I looked at that menu board for a good 5 minutes trying to convince myself that it was on there! I went with cappuccino crunch instead.. but I HAVE had their pumpkin and I can attest to its greatness. Sorry I made you go on an extra trip, but I SWEAR the email said October 13th! Grrr..
on Oct 15th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
SO JEALOUS of the Licks!!!!!
on Oct 15th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Pumpkin stuff is seriously the best. I made pumpkin butter this past weekend and have been adding it to nearly everything!! I must find some pumpkin yogurt or ice cream…something frozen!
That’s quite an interesting article. Just remember, take some time just for youself to do something you love. Stress is never fun!
on Oct 16th, 2008 at 6:44 am
I just made some homemade pumpkin ice cream for the first time a little while ago! It was sooo good – tasted just like you said…delicious pumpkin pie!
on Oct 16th, 2008 at 9:27 am
same thing happened to me. but i pulled the reins in and in a week am back down. it can be really hard to maintain, and not gain OR lose weight, when one is super stressed. congrats on your pageviews! that is so exciting!
on Oct 16th, 2008 at 10:18 am
Pumpkin ice cream is my very favorite flavor! I get so excited during Fall because then I’m able to eat it! We have taken to eating two wee scoops of pumpkin ice cream with two wee scoops of coffee ice cream. It tastes like pumpkin latte! So that’s what we decided to call it.

Laura,
I actually didn’t like that Kashi Roll bar very much. It was really, really sweet and artificial tasting. It had a lot of protein in it (12 g), but I didn’t like the flavor much.

Tina,
I would guess that you have put on additional muscle and not fat. Your workouts have really changed and intensified over the past couple of months with your additional job. You should have your body fat checked and see if that has changed. It may be interesting…

MMM! I love pumpkin ice cream. Too bad it’s not available all year. I just ate some last night that I made a few days ago. I actually took the ice cream and made it into a pumpkin ice cream pie with a homemade graham cracker crust and whipped cream on top. The recipe will be available on my website soon.
