Guest Blog: My Sis Reviews Hogson Mill Brownie Mix

So, guys, I’ve decided to add a new feature to the blog. I’d like to feature guest bloggers on Carrots ‘N’ Cake from time to time to give you guys a fresh perspective on various topics, such as restaurant and product reviews, recipe testing, event recaps, opinion pieces, exercise ideas, photo slideshows, etc.

I already have a couple of you “on assignment,” but if you’re interested in being featured as a guest blogger (I’m opened to just about anything), please drop me an email.

Product Review

Hogson Mill Brownie Mix with Whole Wheat Flour & Mill Flax Seed

“I made the brownies last night. Turns out they weren’t gluten-free like I had planned, but they were whole wheat flour and milled flax seed.

The ingredients called for 1/4 cup veggie oil, but I only had canola oil in the house, so I used that instead. They also called for 1/2 stick of butter, but I used Smart Balance butter. I mixed the ingredients and then added the optional 1/2 cup of Hershey’s dark chocolate chips (and sprinkled some on top). Finally, I put the mixture in a pan and cooked it for about 24 mins on 350.

When they were cool, I tried one, well 2, and they weren’t that bad. The added chocolate chips were really good, it made them a little gooey and chocolaty. I don’t think the brownies alone (without the chocolate chips) would have satisfied my chocolate craving because you could tell that they were made with wheat flour.”

Every time I make a dessert recipe with wholewheat flour it ends up a wierd consistancy and fluufier. I wish I could find that brand. I have ssen it on many blogs. I look like a weirdo reading ingrident list at the grocery store.

i actually had a good coupon so we bought this, i found they were some what on the great side warm but after they sat for awhile they were just ok. i am still convinced that half regular/white flour and half wheat flour is the way to go to get a food tasting goodie.
