Great Way to Start the Day

Good morning, blog world! :) My day has started off fantastically! Running into Yoga was an amazing way to start my day! The combination of a heart-pumping, sweaty workout followed by a slow and relaxing yoga session that stretched all of my tight running muscles was just how I’d like to start every morning! :)

I was originally worried about running outside in the cold, but the weather end up being fairly warm for the early morning (upper 40’s), which was totally manageable for me. I wore workout pants and a tank top with a long-sleeve shirt and fleece vest over it. Within 5-7 minutes of running, I was already warm. I started sweating about 2 minutes after that. Running outside really isn’t too bad… well, we’ll see how I hold up once the weather hits below 30 degrees. Yikes!

Our group (6-7 women) ran through Back Bay down Comm. Ave. and around Boston Common for a quick 3-mile loop. As we ran, the group naturally broke into smaller groups based on pace. I was feeling good (and enjoying the scenery), so I decided to stay with the “fast” group… and boy, were they fast! I have no idea what type of pace we were running, but I felt like a speed demon coming into Copley Square. I almost always run by myself, so it was great to have someone push my pace for me. I can definitely see how running with others can make you a better (and faster) runner. Those ladies pushed me hard!

The yoga session immediately followed the running, which meant that I continued to drip sweat for a good 10 minutes through the first few Vinyasa poses. What can I say, I’m a sweaty girl! The poses focused on upper body (shoulder) strength, core stability, and overall flexibility for the muscle groups that best compliment running. My entire body felt extremely relaxed and fully stretched after class. I loved it! :)

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning was my usual “office oatmeal” with sliced banana and 2 big scoops of peanut butter. I also made myself a mug of Italian Roast with vanilla soy milk and agave nectar.

Jam-Packed Week

So, I have the busiest week ever coming up! It’s mostly fun stuff, so it shouldn’t be too bad. I just hope I can squeeze in some sleep!

  • Monday: AM workout, 9-5, HW until 9
  • Tuesday: 9-5, HW until 10
  • Wednesday: AM workout, 9-5, facial at Catherine Hinds
  • Thursday: AM workout, 9-5, Pool Party at Jillian’s
  • Friday: 9-5, Going Away Party and/or Costume Party
  • Saturday: Sleep!

Question of the Day

Apples & Raisins when you trick or treat? Which always SUCKED!!! Hahahah.. is there such thing as a healthy Halloween treat? I think it’s a fun time to indulge a tiny bit. I think homemade treats as opposed to packaged candy bars!!! I’m obsessed with caramel apples which are both healthy & unhealthy :]

    That class sounds like fun…

When I was younger, my mom would always hand out little bags of pretzels for a healthy treat and that way she wouldn’t get stuck with a ton of leftover candy. I guess those would be my favorite “healthy” treat for it’s reminders. But the unhealthy treats just taste better :D

    Your class sounds amazing :D

My favorite “healthy” halloween treat… caramel dipped apples? That’s kind of healthy. And not so high-cal if you use SF caramel :)

But my favorite unhealthy halloween candy is probably Almond Joy. Ohh yum.

That class sounds awesome! I’m also getting nervous about the freezing temps for running, because I’d really like to get better at it, but we’ll see.

Do you go to someone particular at Catherine Hinds?? I’d love to try them out, and was hoping you had a reccommendation.

    Bridget W.,

Catherine Hinds in awesome! It’s a school, so you are assigned a student when you arrive for your appointment. It’s someone different every time, so I don’t have anyone specific that I go to. Honestly, 90% of the students are VERY good at what they do!

My favorite Halloween treat are those candy corns shaped like pumpkins! They are ridiculously addictive. mmmmm. I doubt that they are healthy but man are they good.

Your running and yoga class sounds amazing. I always try to do *some* yoga after I go on my runs, so a class that offers that is really cool. I think you’re going to feel a big difference tomorrow after all that great stretching!

Glad you enjoyed your class this morning!

My favorite healthy halloween treat would be the small packs of pumpkin shaped pretzels. I always thought that was dumb cause kids wanted candy not pretzels. I respect it more now and probably should have gotten those to pass out instead of candy. Oh well!

Does Candy Corn count? If it has a vegetable in the name, it has to be good for you! haha

I have a serious case of the mondays! Today is not going by nearly as fast as I had hoped. To make matters worse my company bought Halloween cupcakes and I am DYING to have one! Favorite healthy treat ha ha….funny that this is brought up because I was just talking to my boyfriend about giving out pretzels and granola bars for Halloween and he said how BORING it was! I love candy corn, and those damn taunting cupcakes in the kitchen!

Haha OK.. you definitely make me feel like I’m from the north pole. At 40 degrees back home (Minneapolis) I’d be in shorts and a t-shirt. And gloves of course.. but that’s a different story. Glad to hear it was a good run! I can’t wait till I can be back on the streets.

Favorite healthy Halloween treat?? Definitely baked pumpkin seeds! That’s my favorite part of making Jack-o-Lanterns… just scoop out the seeds, rinse off/seperate the stringy orange stuff and toss with olive oil and salt and bake! Yum!!

I hope you decide to skip the half-marathon in the freezing-ass cold weather… especially if you have hip and back problems, as you said. cold weather= gym.
