I brew my coffee for the iced coffee the same way as a regular pot of hot coffee. For iced coffee though, I use double the coffee grinds to make it double the strength. (If you typically use one tablespoon per cup, you will want to use about 1.5 – 2 tablespoons per cup for your iced coffee.) After the pot has finished brewing, I chill the coffee in a big thermos (or pitcher) in the refrigerator. (Letting the coffee chill overnight works best.) To make iced coffee, I just add ice to the chilled coffee as well as milk, sugar, etc. It’s a great treat on warm summer mornings (or afternoons), and making it at home saves you a couple of bucks!

Many thanks-I will look forward to some in the hot weather for sure !!
Hi Tina!
I love iced coffee too. Have you ever made cold brewed coffee? It’s great for this purpose! Really easy too. There was a recipe in the NY Times a while ago: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/27/dining/276drex.html
Just thought I’d share!
Love your blog
Amy
I love iced coffee! Have you seen the N.O. Brew they sell at Whole Foods? It comes in regular, moca, vanilla and hazelnut flavors…all delish! But it can be pricey…this is definitely a better way to go. I also love the Torani sugar-free syrups (even though they have splenda in them…ugh) but they are very tasty additions to iced coffees!! Right now the “seasonal flavor” is pumpkin pie and it is HEAVENLY!!!
Do you know how to make lattes? Or do you need an espresso machine for that?
Hi there, just found your blog and I love it already. I tried making ice coffee years ago the way you describe, until I found the end all be all way. I throw one pound freshly ground coffee in a large pitcher and fill it with spring or filtered water in the morning before work. Give it a good stir before I leave and the once or twice when I get home. The next morning I strain it over a super fine mesh strainer over a new, clean pitcher of the same size and voila, iced coffee the cold-pressed way. Super easy and tastes 100 times better. Highly recommend!
You should try the Hourglass system. It’s BPA free, and it COLD brews coffee. I LOVE LOVE LOVE mine. Less acid, and “green” friendly.
What brand of coffee do you use when you brew at home?
@Maeve @ MaeveHarder: Pretty much whatever is on sale at the grocery store! Right now, I’m drinking Starbucks caramel flavored coffee. It’s delicious!
Thanks for the tips on making iced coffee.. I’ll have to try this!
Do you use decaf or regular?
